Drivers don't develop the car, and I certainly don't recall anyone thinking Alonso will develop a great car for us. Ferrari took him in at all cost because he's a great driver.
For development purposes, that's what Pat Fry and others are for. And I think even Rory Bryne is out of his retirement from F1 for next year's car.
Any statement from Ferrari yet?
Still, that was what Ferrari said;

That was probably a nice way of saying Alonso actually do his work and is not lazy like Kimi![]()
I totally agree. I enjoy engaging in these discussions and reading other people's opinions, which often challenge, encourage or amuse me. Whenever I am unimpressed or uninterested in a comment I simply ignore it. What I can't understand are people on here who insist on dictating the terms of our support for our team, how we should react and what we can and cannot express. I appreciate disagreements but not disrespect for the participation and expressions of others. Such people should consider starting their own fansite where they can keep each other happy and exclude others from joining and ruining their party.

Having said that, we really suck right now! How many times has a team like McLaren had a bad start to the season yet ended up regularly fighting for podium finishes? Why can't WE do that? How long will we continue like this? We obviously don't have great engineers/management or we wouldn't be in this perpetual mess, and as long as that doesn't change we'll never solve the problem. I'm sorry to say it but SD needs to step up or step out.

Mabe being slow is our tactics to get Newey... He said, that he came to Red Bull because he wanted a challenge. Well, getting Ferrari on feet would be one I guess.

don't want to sound like a broken record, the last 3 weeks, others moved ahead and we are now a few steps behind.
the lack of pace was horrible, good thing Alonso kept Grosjean behind for quite a few laps.
things are going to be heated at HQ....
At this point I wouldn't be surprised if a toddler comes and does the same job as our engineers. We are yet to improve the car from God knows how many weeks. I actually question whether the car in China, Bahrain and Spain isn't better that the one we saw in Germany and UK.
I remember the vast majority on here dismissed Newey as a one trick pony (blown diffuser) and said it would be much better to beat Newey than win with him, I wonder if that is still the case now?

has a good summer break and hope that when we get to spa the car is competitive. you know, before Shu came along we were often struggling and I remember a lot of Sundays that were painful to watch but we knew that Scuderia would become competitive again and they did. I admire the drivers for remaining optimistic and regardless of how inferior the car is they are fighting hard... our pit crew is among the very best... our problem is the car and hopefully we aren't concentrating on the '14 car too much to allow this season to slip away. Remaining optimistic and will be happy for the Spa race to arrive... (I think the Hungary track is the worst... never mind other have already said it)...
Forza....
Alonso criticises Grosjean’s “aggressive” driving
Fernando Alonso says Romain Grosjean was too aggressive at the start of the race and is pleased the Lotus driver was penalised later on.
Alonso said he knew his race hinged on making a good start: “We thought that the start was our only opportunity because we were not quick enough.”
“In the start we didn’t maximise the good start we did. Grosjean was concentrating only me, maybe he forgot that we are racing 24 [sic] cars.”
“But I was happy that he paid penalty after with Jenson* to compensate a little bit his aggressivity.”
However Alonso admitted the root of Ferrari’s problems at the Hungaroring was a lack of performance:
“At the end we didn’t have the pace. We were too slow with the soft, we were too slow with the medium. So you know we defend from Webber, from Button, from Romain at the end so we were always defending because we were too slow in the race.
“Thanks to Hamilton and to Kimi [Raikkonen] the loss in points in the championship is not so high but obviously we want to close that gap and we need to improve immediately.”

*Grosjean’s penalty was for his overtaking move on Felipe Massa.

Not sure why Alonso is making those comments really, and Grosjean got the penalty in race for his move on Massa not for hitting Button (he got 20 sec penalty after race for that.)

Maximum effort today. Fight and defend position the all race. We arrived at half championship! Now work hard to catch up ..

Come to think of it, how about a designers' academy similar to that of the young drivers?

Hungarian GP – The statistics
0 the number of podium finishes for Felipe Massa in 10 Hungarian Grand Prix starts. The Brazilian has finished in the top ten six times, with one fourth, one sixth, two sevenths, one eighth and a ninth.
0 the number of podium finishes for the Scuderia in the last two Hungarian Grands Prix. Today’s result – Alonso fifth, Massa eighth – is pretty much identical to last year’s when the Spaniard finished in the same place and the Brazilian one further back.
8 the number of points finishes for Fernando Alonso in 12 appearances at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Today’s fifth place is the same result as a year ago, but Fernando has done better six times: once he has won, once he was second, twice third and twice fourth.
77 the points scored by the Scuderia in the second quarter of the 2013 season, 40 less than those brought home from the first five races. To compare, Alonso has lost 11 (from 72 to 61) while Felipe has no less than 29 fewer (from 45 to 16.)
