It happened today – 24 August.

On 24th August 2008, Felipe Massa won the European Grand Prix. On the Valencia street circuit that was hosting the race named after the Old Continent for the first time, the Brazilian had the perfect weekend: first in qualifying on Saturday, first past the chequered flag on Sunday, adding the fastest race lap for good measure. It was a very important victory for Felipe, following on from the bitter disappointment of the Hungaroring, where only an engine failure robbed him of an almost certain win. “It’s fantastic to have won this race, especially after the disappointment of Budapest,” he said after the race. “The team did an amazing job in preparing for this Grand Prix and the fruits of their efforts were evident right from the first day. Yesterday came pole, today the win, with the fastest lap as the icing on the cake.” -

Yep, beautiful race and beautiful result, except for that engine blow-out for Kimi. Those were the days, really nice

How good he must have felt and if it hadn't been for that engine failure in Hungary, 3 laps from the end, he'd have been a Ferrari World Champion. Fast forward five years and what he must now be feeling is desperation. Poor guy but he still has some support at least.

Wouldn't mind him doing that again this year although for the chapionship it would be better if Fernando won.
