The 58 was the 4 cilinder, the 57 was an engine they start developping in 2007 because of development restrictions

    interesting and good news

According to Italian media, Ferrari are so protective over their newest creation that select journalists were only shown a 3D render.....

... & they were only allowed to hear a sound clip. No technical journalists allowed, no cameras or recorders. Not even SKY or BBC permitted

The rumours say the engine is fabricated using "exotic" and "lightweight" material, and that Ferrari banned anyone who would ask questions..

In fact, the only detail we have is the name, 059/3
The new Ferrari V6 was showed in a extream secret presentation,no cameras,no tech jurnalist were allowed!

Rumors say reason is that the engine is made out of exotic and ultralight materials, and chosen ones were only able to see 3D render!

Yes, it's great that it was made using exotic and lightweight materials, but no pictures then huh?

It sounds good, but let's wait and see how their reliability will be..

If feel al lot of pressure, I think we have a good team at the track, and we had a good engine, problem was aero.. next year aero will still be important, and we won't be the best at it, hopefully we will be better then last year.. perhaps we can make the difference with the engine.. I hope so but I also think we need to for our reputation

In the 3D presentation of the 059/3 has listened to a full sound, worthy of a Formula 1 car

Bernie Ecclestone had lashed out at the V6 Turbo, fearing that the sound of the engines took away a lot of charm to single-seaters in 2014. From what we have got to feel it in the Department of Logistics Ferrari will not. Thankfully! Horse team has set up for journalists a stunning 3D presentation engine 6-cylinder turbo that is called 059/3 and for the first time he heard the sound of the engine over the counter. Compared to other simulations that have heard before, the ' unity of the Horse has a full sound from motor racing. Certainly it is not the cry of the V8 that ran at 18 000 rpm, but even the "buzzing mosquito" that we had heard in other advances during the summer. "Let us not forget that it is only a 1.6-liter engine heat - said Luca Marmorini , head of Ferrari engines - and the turbo helps to mute the musicality of the V6. E 'fair to add, moreover, that the recording was played in presneatzione offered only 70% of the fullness of the sound, since certain frequencies have been cut ... ".

Luca Marmorini , head of Ferrari engines, during the tutorial for journalists that took place in the racing department to get familiar with the engine V6 Turbo has also formalized the working group that helped him with the development of new power-unit referred to as 059/3 for Formula 1.

Mattia Binotto , but appreciated the young engineer who has always taken care of the engine on the track, he was promoted to the role of vice-director of the engine department and is responsible for the new electronics. The group of motorists is divided into six subsystems: Guido De Paola is the designer of the new V6 Turbo, while Daniel Zecchetti deals with the turbo and fuel system and Thierry Baritaud develops hybrid systems (ERS and KERS). Enrico Gualtieri is the professional who takes care of reliability, David Salters experimentation and Stephen Rovera electronics.

Ferrari did not want to formalize the number of components that are part of the engine department: in any case it is a group of technicians between the one hundred and the one hundred and twenty units.

Right now all just rumor, and due to such level of secrecy, rumors will run rampant since nothing can be verified. But it does seem like Ferrari is throwing everything they have and more at this engine, and they are super protective of it, cutting out sound frequencies to hide details :xmaseek:

Yea of course it's a little bit sad that we didn't get to see any pictures, but I actually prefer them to keep it in total secrecy rather than giving valuable tips to our opponents by revealing everything. Very good and smart move by Ferrari, it keeps our enemies guessing and wondering.

You got a point there but I think it would have been very difficult for other teams to really copy anything because they are very busy with the new car as well at the moment so it would be difficult to chance that in a short time.

I really hope Ferrari did stop BBC and Sky from viewing the new Engine, the British press only say negative things about Ferrari and love it when we fail.

Awww not even a photo in the end, all this wait for nothing lol !
Anyway, if Ferrari wants to keep the "secret" for as long as possible I think it must be a positive sign, plus more rumours about a light engine, this sounds good.

Looks like Ferrari shared my concerns and decided to show only a 3D rendition of the engine.

For a short explanation of the 059/3 nomenclature, as stated, the 059 is the sequential F1 engine development number (ie. 057 refer to an iteration of the F1 V8, 058 to the proposed 4 cylinder F1 engine, and 059 - the current V6 Turbo.) The /3 following the 059 indicates the engine design as already being in the third generation of project development for this new V6 Turbo engine.
