Well, if it is true that it is 13kg overweight then it is an easy problem to solve compared to others. Maybe the car itself isn't overweight and we will have 13kg of ballast to distribute wich will be very beneficial. FIA will probably be lenient to any engine that is behind, they don't want an engine formula.
McLaren EXPECTING to be half a second quicker in Malaysia #confident:
These intercontinental races limit how fast you can develop the car, but nevertheless we're going to give it our best shot. We're confident that we will be half a second quicker at the next grand prix for a variety of reasons. That's not going to be enough to achieve our goal but that will keep the pressure on the teams that are chasing us.”
Ron dennis...seaking sponsorship...tbh they have always been exceptional at developing a car it must be said!
It is funny, for the author to make such a big deal about something so insignificant, just shows that they have no real news or any opinion of significance to report.
Most of the things which is mentioned in the article did come from Kimi over different parts of the race weekend anyway - just may be not using those same exact words.
It's sad but true, McLaren has always been very good at development. I mean they created DRS with the F-Duct.
Forza Ferrari!!
It's all about the new wind tunnel. If our updates stop working mid year like the last couple of season then we know we are still in the hole.
It's true that there are no signs of exceptional creativity at Ferrari right now.
Forza Ferrari
"And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It's your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it."
Sadly I have to agree with you. During the race I was waiting for the front runners to retire so that alonso could be on the podium. Clearly this is not what we all hoped for. Really wish this was just down to our engine not running at full power and they find a solution in time for the next race.
Any news from ferrari regarding developments for Malaysia? So far I couldn't find any articles from ferrari.
Engine vise, what terrifies me is the lack of pace other two Ferrari engine using teams in Melbourne. Sauber was nowhere and also Marussi was further behind than last year. Hope that its not the Ferrari PO but Sauber's lack of budget and resulting poor aerodynamics and similarly Marussias poor car and not PO. But still I had the feeling that Caterham had much much better straight line speed compared to Marussia and Toro Rosso was also faster on straights than Sauber.
Just to add to the above post, we must remember this was our first race using the new engine technology and reliability will be key to scoring many points. knowing how Ferrari have worked in the past and as it was the first race i'am sure all Ferrari engines would of been used in a Conservative manner, hopefully engine power will be increased in the next races.
If Ferrari can upgrade their ERS by 30% which is around 40bhp that equates to an improvement of about 4-5 tenths per lap. Which means we'll still be behind Mercedes but comfortably ahead of McLaren and Williams. Bear in mind that we'll also bring other improvements too that will add add another few tenths. I must say I am skeptical about Ferrari's ability at developing the car going by past experience but hopefully a working windtunnel will drastically change things for us.
So great in the past 16 seasons they won 1 constructors and 3 drivers putting them behind Ferrari, Redbull and level with Renault. This myth occured due to 2009 when by luck their design could fit in a fully working ddd. In 2012 they started 1st and finished 3rd in constructors. In the past 5 years one team has got better and better during each season and sadly thats Redbull. With a working windtunnel Ferrari will be very good at developing. Current issues appear to be pu related however. To the member saying 30% ers improvement is 40 hp and 0.5 seconds I read the 30% as meaning from the current starting point not 30% of overall ers potential. Also brake by wire can reduce lap time by an untold amount due to increased driver confidence so 1 second combined is not out of the question.
Tobias Grüner of AMUS is reporting that the Ferrari PU turbo layout is similar to that of Mercedes. Turbine at the rear, MGU-H in the middle of the V, compressor at the front. Wonder how long it will be before we see actual photos of the three power units.
That 30% would help more than just that half a second in lap time, it would save fuel too and make it possible to push more of those "racing" laps.
I mean had we even chance to take all out of our combustion unit if ERS wasn't used at full, or was the comb.engine turned down too for saving fuel?
Hey man, I dislike McLaren as much as the next Tifoso, but they are good at developing the car and often come up with unique designs and solutions. If you remember, they had the fastest car at the end of 2012 winning in both Texas and Brazil along with leading Singapore until Hamilton has DNF'd. They were probably the most deserving team to win the championship that year but some awful pit stops, not leaving a liter of fuel for Hamilton in Spain, questionable strategy calls and some untimely reliability problems were their undoing. Their poor conversion of opportunities over the last decade has often come down more to Strategy and politics (see 2007) than anything else.
But this is the F14T Development thread, not a McLaren forum so lets move on.
Forza Ferrari!!
I'm trying too understand the ers system? Does it mean that too run at a pace with ers not at full power we are using more fuel from the engine making it more thirsty?
