Larger brakes takes longer to heat, are heavier and disrupt aero.
Some circuits that are heavy on the brakes like Canada requires indeed larger brakes but if you can go smaller.

I am a little worried by the quotes from Alonso recently regarding F1 in 2014.
He has stated that he thinks the regulations will place more emphasis on the driver, which to some degree he is correct however the more i look at the regs and the management of the ERS systems in particular the more it points to electronics being even more important.
Before 2014 the driver would select when to use KERS. In 2014 not only will the car need to work out how best to use the ERS system but the best time to use it will change slightly on every lap depending on the circumstances. For example, when you are in clear air or when you are trying to overtake another driver will no doubt require a different usage of ERS at different parts of the track depending on where the direct competitor is.
How the electronic system will be able to work this out is the real challenge and perhaps places more emphasis back on the software engineers as it was years ago and not simply on aero.

So we had originally reported that the Ferrari engineers have decided the car for the new season in 2014, again to switch back to a pushrod front suspension, as used by most other teams.
Unfortunately we have to correct ourselves here. According to the latest information from Giorgio Piola Ferrari will remain with the new regulations in the innovative pullrod suspension, in which the tension strut attaches to the lower part of the chassis and the top of the wheel.![]()

Is Ferrari still using Sachs dampers and clutches and Brembo brake calipers? How about rotors and pads?
Also, do any of you know why Ferrari switched over to OZ wheels from BBS?

I think you're wrong, it WILL be different cos we're talking about Jerez, 1. test not 2. and 3. test where we will see packages more similar to that ones that come to AUS...In 1. test it will be all about engine reliability and general package tests and not about aerodynamics and speed...

is it NOT within the rules?? or if we'd go this way it would be at a disadvantage in comparison to teh "ugly" one in terms or aerodynamics??

The reason why we're seeing those thin nose that looks like an elephant trunk is because the front section has to curve down every low, and as a result it blocks the air from entering underneath the front bulkhead. We want as much air to flow underneath the bulkhead as we can. This air then flows along the side of the car to the rear where they are needed.
The rules set a minimum width of the front tip of the nose. So by making the nose as narrow as the rules allow, you have lesser nose area blocking the air from the front. In the past the nose were pointing straight so it would not be blocking the air. Now we have to curve it down, we would want to curve as narrow section of the nose as we can.
what amazes me is go back 2001 Ferrari and 2005 McLaren had very low noses and there wasn't a problem.dont know if I can take another year of ugly cars.we watch this sport becuz they are suppose to be beautiful works of art. and pointy noses like that high or low is pretty lethal
If new noses are really like that then, even if it might sound crazy, I'd prefer 2012 ones...
I was very happy when new rules said that F1 was going back to low noses, I immediately thought about the F2001, or about the BrawnGP if you want a most recent example...
This instead would be REALLY ugly... bloody hell, enough with bloody aerodynamic dear F1, it's also important to have good looking cars ! These jokes won't attract new people to the sport.

Back then it was not a problem because of the rules.They were not so tight like today,and you were able to build a very efficient car without pushing all the boundaries.If you compare the Ferrari F2004 and the next 2014 car there should be a difference in downforce of 60/70 % in favour of the F2004,so back then was not necessary to have the highest nose possible or thousand other things,because there was plenty of downforce to be found without going crazy.
back then you had massive diffusers that had a lot of downforce just compare diffuser from f2004 and F138

In the end, it doesn't matter one little bit whether we like the look of the nose or not. The only criteria is performance, not looks.
