as i said in a previous post, one of my customers is a relation to rory byrne. when i see him next i will ask him to ask rory what involvement he has had with this years car. no harm in asking!

"If I was driving for Red Bull [from 2008] probably I would have more championships, but because they were dominating between 2010 and 2014 probably I would never have driven for Ferrari. I am very happy and very proud to drive for Ferrari, all my time there.

From a personal perspective the Ferrari is the most intriguing car yet released. Although some pictures show a reasonable amount of detail, understandably others use vanity panels to block the views, eg of the rear diffuser cannot be seen. After a bit of thought the front nose design has ‘grown’ on me and I like their aggressive stance of effectively dropping the nose the whole height and maintain the width, leading to a short hanger to the front wing and a relatively small gap between the neutral section and the profiled nose. The cooling package looks extremely aggressive too with small sidepod intakes and a distinct triangular roll hoop intake with a small secondary inlet below this and a couple of rear spine mounted exits too. The rear of the car features are less clear but the twin pillar mounted rear wing which is nicely contoured to channel the exhaust flow connects to a heavily slotted assembly outboard of which are located the rear brake duct cascade system.

Turbo cars are typically quieter. Also the lower tones and less RPM from the V6's, I suspect the actual decibels of the new engines to be significantly quieter than the V8s. From the vids I've seen they do sound pretty good though.

the problem I find is that audio via TV does no justice whatsoever to what the real experience is on track. And I don't understand why. For example I have never heard on tv the loud bangs of these cars when downshifting, truly a nearly orgasmic sensation when there !!!

Audio recording equipment regulates sound frequencies and levels for broadcasting. Noise gates take a slice off the top and a slice off the bottom. The lower gate moves, which is why when a car passes, the audio frequency of the car fades into local (near the mic) crowd/ambient hum rather than total silence. The upper gate is fixed, so the pops and cracks above the set frequency are lost. But it has to be done, otherwise the sound from your TV/Radio would be unbearable. Switching from one camera to another for example, from silence to peak revs/cracks, would be a very sudden and distorted peaky screech, too much for your TV's audio to manage and not at all pleasant to listen to. The signal also has to be managed so that you can hear the commentary consistently. Which is a shame on some channels.

    Good news..

For Ferrari instead there has been a request for clarification from the part of the Mercedes, since the turbocharger lacks the external protection in theory required to protect against splinters in case of breakage. The team at Maranello , however, has stated that their turbocharger is manufactured by an outside supplier with certain specifications, the FIA considered sufficient.

I find sad how everybody has lost all faith regarding Ferrari design team.

The Ferrari is different to the others -> Ferrari should start working in their 2015 design and forget this one.
If it is the RB that's different to the others -> RB has found the holy grial of aero and the championship is already theirs.

The Mercedes W05 and the F14 appear to follow very similar concepts. Wide low nose (the Merc front wing is more complex but not nessisarily better), same concept on the camera mounts, similar small radiator inlets, same position of radiator exit (forward of rear suspension). The diffusers also feature a dip in the center section with the Ferrari being rounder and the Merc thinner but taller. This should make people believe Ferrari was not wrong to go down this path, as it is very doubtfull a completely different team would go the same way if it wasn't a good solution.

To me the RB10 is the most plane Jane of all the cars until now, that could mean nothing at all ,but the design is quite conventional.

This Ferrari looks more RedBully to me than the F138.Look at the coke shape, even if the packaging is critical this year i am sure they could have made it tighter, but probably because of the light separation issues present on the F138 they decided not to do it that way anymore.

Just my uneducated guess, but looking at the "Kapersky" part, looks like the air is curving in towards the underside of the nose. Maybe that's how they feed the T-tray (under the bulkhead) with sufficient air
