The end of this era of Formula1.

Here we are yet again at the end of an F1 era of cars. 2014 will bring a new direction
to F1. While a lot of basics remain, power, aero, traction, downforce..a lot of new things will
come about...power, aero, traction, downforce plus more new tires, hopefully..more energy
related, fuel restriction, hopefully more testing.

Ferrari have not been bad this era, which I consider started in 2009, almost
winning top prize and coming very close to achieving the top step in the championships.

So far, no one has any idea what to expect come 2014. Nothing has been released except
a few pix of Merc/Honda powerplants, so no one really knows whats up with the direction
of how the cars will look or perform. Its exciting.

What I will miss, the V8's for sure..my fav being the V10 era. I remember well the last turbo era.
It started ok, but appeared to go downhill as tighter fuel regs produced so so racing.

I think it a pretty big deal, when 1 era of F1 gives way to a new one. Of recent era's, I must say
i liked the way the cars looked from 2000 to 2006. Ive hated the noses the last few years and feel
00 to 06 the cars looked great. I would like to see some changes in the rules, no tire limitations with a few more tire mftr's involved...
no fuel restrictions, a return to unlimited testing, non processional races, to name a few.

Unfortunately, the F138 will be looked on as a so so attempt, one I feel is not fair, as it did win a few races
and looked totally competitive until the tire brewhaha earlier in the season, but I would say our cars. 2010 and 2011
were pretty darn good cars in this last era.

So, on to Brasil where I hope the Prancing Horse F138 can bow out with some dignity and have a good race with good results.
It would also be great to see Massa on the podium, as more than many, he was a true Ferrari member in more ways than one.
He will hold a place in my racing memories as a true Ferrari piloti. Just as so many b4 him, he is now a part of Ferrari history.

I'll miss the V8. While I understand many have said we've been through changes, I don't always feel they are in the right direction. Formula 1 cars should be loud and spectacular. Anyway, I am excited about the technical changes next year.

However, there will still be long standing issues that needs to be addressed (which are not addressed in these upcoming technical changes). Skysports today touched on some of them, the tires, drivers pushing in the race, refueling, points system.

Some of these issues are difficult to address. I mean viewers wants to see the drivers push. The drivers want to do that too. But any tires that are durable enough to allow that is going to result in 1 pit stop. I think we can agree that 1 pit stop is bad. So how do we get out of this. Do we bring back refueling, do we make mandatory 2-3 stops so drivers can push but they cannot pit only once. Personally I'd like to see either one of this happening. Maybe even explore the option of allowing the teams to make free tire choice. If we're worried about cost, make the team choose beforehand and Pirelli need to fly the same number of tires out, just different compound.

So yeah, interesting times ahead with these technical changes, but more changes are probably needed outside of car design.

Yeah, feels like we're going around in circles.... there always seems to be a period of big innovation followed by very restrictive rules, followed by a return to more innovative standards.... I miss the big V12's the most... but maybe that's out of nostalgia more than anything else!

Let's hope this new era brings Ferrari much greater success, they've been pushing to limit the gains from aero for a while, let's hope they can finally deliver on what they feel are closer to their core competencies lol!
Rest in Peace Leza, you were a true warrior...

I watched the V10 era race after FP1 this afternoon on Sky and the sound was awesome.

I don't know what is in store next year, but i hope it is awesome as well.

All F1 fans just hope it is the battle in F1 to be the best in Motorsport.

After the procession that was the USGP, something needs to be done to restrict aero dictating how closely cars can compete with each other, tyres need to be made less susceptible to degradation/temperatures/life expectancy and the whole grid needs to be enabled to be more competitive, from back to front....asking the impossible, I know.

I could def go for your ideas especially on the tires. Out n out pedal to the metal racing is what F1, or the true essence of F1 is supposed to be.
Too much of a spec racing series especially w/the tires. These rules should be addressed so the fia could at least start in a positive direction.
I vote V10's, although I always loved the Ferrari V12, the Ferrari V10 was awesome. The cars are going to sound different next year. I hope the racing will be too.
