I wonder how Schumacher would have fared in the present Mercedes. He was a pretty good match against Rosberg. He must have given some input to the 2013 car and the 2014 project you would think with a man of such experience. It's a shame he didn't get to stay longer to reap the benefits.

You know, I've been thinking the same thing...if he was still with Mercedes and drive their 2014 car, and with looking to great performance of the car (and team), pretty sure he would have chance to take an another world champion with them...

May 25, 2014 04:23 PM EDT doctors attending to Schumacher's case have reportedly said that recovery is still possible but it could take longer than expected as there are two sides of coma. If the racing champion shows signs of progress, it may lead him to regain full consciousness, but there are also chances that his health could deteriorate further.
"Either there is deterioration or there is a positive development. But if there is progress, it is done over months, not days. A patient does not wake up once. It is a popular imaging and it is false," CHU Liege chief neurosurgeon Dr. Didier Martin told Sudinfo.be.
Schumacher's manager Sabine Kehm has said that she and Michael's family have remained positive about his medical condition. Kehm previously clarified to the media that reports pertaining to the athlete waking up were not confirmed by attending physicians and that the F1 star was still in a coma. However, it was also confirmed that there have been some minor improvements in Michael's condition over recent weeks and months.
Schumacher has been in a medically-induced coma for about four months after his tragic skiing accident in the French Alps last year. The family has asked fans to continue praying for his progressive recovery.

Michael Schumacher’s current situation is one of life’s great ironies. Not only has the go-getter competed in 306 Formula 1 races, but also hundreds of Go Karts, junior formula racing and sportscar racing (including the Le Mans 24 hours). The details of Michael’s crash aren’t totally clear, but what we do know is that he was out skiing with his son and fell at a relatively slow speed. It’s hard-hitting for his family who saw him spend so many years risking his life on the fast track.

Michael was always a fierce competitor who entered the ring to win. Even when he retired the first time in 2006, he carried on with the Go-Karts, and even motorbike racing. I remember when he made his comeback in 2010 there were many expectations from him. His first race back then coincided with my debut in F1 and Michael was the centre of everybody’s attention. I remember how surprised I was when he was one of the first to say hello to me and to wish me good luck in F1. There he was—one of the biggest icons in world sport, and yet he took the time out to chat.

What really stood out about Michael was his attention to detail. I know a lot of people who worked with him at Benetton, Ferrari and Mercedes and they all talk about how he wanted to know everything about everything! I remember at every driver’s meeting, he would have more questions and comments than anyone else. Michael wasn’t without flaws, however. His comeback with Mercedes produced more incidents and less results than he would have liked. There was always an air of confidence and mystique around him, often misinterpreted as arrogance, but more than anything, he had this huge underlying self-belief that he was the best in the world at what he did.

Despite all of this, and despite whatever enemies or rivals he may have made along the way, there is no question about Michael being one of the sport’s greatest icons and ambassadors. Only Ayrton Senna and Nigel Mansell can claim to have had that kind of appeal.

Schumi’s A Champ

Perhaps my most vivid memory of him was at my F1 debut in Australia in 2005 (of course, I remember my first-ever F1 race as if it was yesterday). It was quite something to be on the same grid as the legendary Michael Schumacher and understandably I was a little unnerved. My recollection of the encounter is still crystal clear--as during the pre-event press-conference, a journalist had asked him, “What do you think about this rookie in the Jordan?” and he replied, “He’s doing a good job for them.” Coming from someone like Schumi, it was a massive inspiration to do even better!

As the weekend unfolded, it kept getting crazier. A lot of cars went off track in qualifying and in the end I managed to be 12th on the grid and Schumacher was only 18th (I had the advantage of completing my laps before the conditions changed drastically but it isn’t every day that you find yourself ahead of a seven-time world champion!) I went on to finish the race ahead of him as well, so it was quite a weekend.

Since then, I had plenty of opportunities to interact with him; he always remained extremely fit whether he was racing or not. He was also quite involved with his son Mick who had started go-karting a couple of years ago. The last time I had a long chat with him was during the 2012 Race of Champions in Bangkok.

Despite his obviously immense talent, he probably had the most exceptional work ethic of all F1 drivers of his time—which is what made him unbeatable. His extreme diligence and scrupulous attention to detail is something that any racing driver, or for that matter any other sportsperson, can learn from. I believe success always stays with you, irrespective of how your life turns out after you have achieved it. Schumacher will always be the most successful driver in the sport, a seven-time world champion, a fierce competitor.

In the past, several others like Jim Clark, Jochen Rindt and Ayrton Senna too met tragic ends but still always remain champions of the sport. Real friends and fans are always there, even if they can’t really help you out when you are in a crisis. Admittedly, the percentage might be overwhelmingly small compared to when you’re in the limelight, but some support is always there. A racing driver doesn’t think about what would happen if the brakes fail at 300 kmph. A normal human will, as it’s a survival instinct. A racing driver is hardwired to not think of those worst-case scenarios, as it’ll hold you back from pushing your limits and going faster.

I haven’t had the opportunity to visit Michael since his accident. I realise this is a very crucial, private time for him and his family as it has affected their lives in a completely unprecedented manner. It isn’t something that we can measure or fathom from our perspective. It’s an extremely unfortunate thing to happen, forced to exist in this world just only in the physical sense with no emotional connect whatsoever. My prayers will always be with him. I hope he recovers quickly.

Flavio Briatore admits that he is worried about the health of his former Formula 1 World Champion, Michael Schumacher who still lies in a coma, more than five months since he injured himself while skiing.

In the mid 90s, as the boss and number 1 driver of the Benetton team, the pair won their first world championships hand-in-hand.

Now 45, Schumacher has been lying comatose in a French hospital bed for more than 160 days.

Italian Briatore, speaking to Italian Radio24, admitted his fears, “There is no news because the family is very closed. They are not communicating. “But surely no news in this case is not good news.”

In the past few days, German television RTL aired a special programme about Schumacher and his new battle to recover from his horror skiing fall.

German tennis legend Boris Becker said during the programme: “We cannot imagine what Corinna and the children have been going through since the accident.

“They have built a protective wall around him,” he added. “It’s been very quiet but this is the only way to cure him.”

German medical journalist Christoph Specht also said that it is premature to say that Schumacher is now fighting a losing battle, “Comas are not all the same. There are always pleasant surprises in which patients wake up after many years.”

Even if the toppings and dressings of the exaggeration are disregarded, I think a fair bit of the so-called "speculations" and "rumors" could still be assumed as credible. These articles must have their sources before they can disclose info like that.

Michael Schumacher has been moved to a special rehabilitation unit within the hospital in Grenoble where the Formula 1 legend has been comatose since late last year, according to the weekly newsmagazine Bunte.

Last week, a private German rehabilitation clinic in Allensbach denied reports that it was already treating the seven time world champion.

The DPA news agency said that 45-year-old Schumacher, who has been in a coma since a skiing fall in late December, is still at the Grenoble hospital.

But Bunte is reporting in its latest issue that, even though the former F1 driver’s chances of recovery are now small, Schumacher is being prepared for rehabilitation.

He has reportedly already been discharged from the neurological care unit at the Grenoble University hospital, and transferred to a unit specialising in rehabilitation treatment.

Citing clinical sources, Bunte added that Schumacher’s next phase of treatment will prepare him for transfer to a specialist rehabilitation clinic.

Sad and hope news at the same time. Sad to hear that the chance of a recovery to anything like the life he had is slim but hope that he is out of danger and will continue to be rehabilitated. So long as he is still alive there is always hope

Michael Schumacher is no longer in a coma, his management announced today.

The seven times world champion continues his rehabilitation, but has left Grenoble hospital and the high dependency unit where he was taken on December 29th following his skiing accident at Meribel, France.

There will be no further bulletins on his rehabilitation and his family and management plan to issue no more information about his whereabouts or his condition.

The statement said simply:

“Michael has left the CHU Grenoble to continue his long phase of rehabilitation. He is not in a coma anymore.

“His family would like to explicitly thank all his treating doctors, nurses and therapists in Grenoble as well as the first aiders at the place of the accident, who did an excellent job in those first months.

“The family also wishes to thank all the people who have sent Michael all the many good wishes to Michael. We are sure it helped him.

“For the future we ask for understanding that his further rehabilitation will take place away from the public eye. “
