Thumbs up It happened today – 26 January

On 26th January 1975, the Brazilian Grand Prix, the second round of that year’s Formula 1 World Championship took place in Sao Paulo. As was the case two weeks earlier in Argentina, the Scuderia was still using the 1974 car, the 312 B3 and it was not all competitive up against its main rivals in Interlagos. Lauda and Regazzoni were fourth and fifth respectively on the starting grid, but over a second off pole man Jean-Pierre Jarier in the Shadow. In the race, the two Ferrari men were never in the fight for the win, which looked like being comfortably the property of the Frenchman, until he stopped towards the end with an engine problem. Thus it was Brazil’s Carlos Pace in the Brabham who was first past the flag, ahead of fellow countryman Emerson Fittipaldi in the McLaren. Regazzoni could have made it to the podium, but in the end, he dropped a few places with tyre degradation problems, finishing fourth, 43 seconds off the winner, while team-mate Lauda was fifth over a minute behind.

Hope the new season doesn't start in the same way, I couldn't bear it. It seems so long ago now, I can't believe my own loyalty has been so unfailing!
