Thumbs up It happened today- 16 February

On 16th February 1985, Enzo Ferrari presented the 156-85 to the press. It would be used by Michele Alboreto and Stefan Johannson to compete in that year’s Formula 1 World Championship, the Swede replacing Rene Arnoux immediately after the first race. Alboreto came close to taking the title in this car, only giving best to Alain Prost in the final part of the season because of an incredible run of reliability problems, while the team finished second in the Constructors’ championship.

There were two wins that season, both courtesy of Alboreto, first in Canada and then in Germany. The Italian also took the team’s only pole in Brazil and fastest race laps in San Marino and Monaco. There were a total of ten podium finishes – six seconds and thirds, apart from the two wins, with eighteen points finishes.

Alboreto was very unfortunate not to take the title in '85 and it's about time we had another shot at it with an Italian driver!

Yep, that title was certainly there for the taking, one of the most painful championship losses in Ferrari's F1 history imho. Alboreto had a good points lead and looked set to take the title but then the team decided to change something on the turbo (which cost Ferrari the reliability) and after that Alboreto didn't finish a single race. Very unlucky and sad.
