A new front wing, and a slightly larger cooling outlet surrounding the exhaust area. From what I'm aware of.

Ha ha brembo man, good point and although we apparently didn't manage a race sim, it's hardly the end of the world. Why are people getting so negative already, it's going to take time and be an intense learning curve for everyone, and as for Merc having an extra 75hp, how is that possible? I'm reserving judgement until Melbourne.

Most likely a fuel pick-up test only the team knows.

At the back is Nicola, and Andrea, on the front this side is Filippo and Carlo. If they are laughing, then it's something very funny and something that is not serious at all!

    Piero Ferrari visits testing

Sakhir, 27 February–First day of the final test session for the Formula 1 teams at Sakhir, Bahrain. Kimi Raikkonen’s performance this morning at the wheel of the F14 T was witnessed by Piero Ferrari, the son of the Founder and current Vice President of the company, who decided to add his support to the team at this key moment of the year. “I have come to encourage the whole group, but also I was curious to find out what these cars sound like,” he told www.ferrari.com. “I still remember the noise the engines made in the Eighties and the current power units don’t seem so different to those. However, these cars are the interpretation of a technological challenge that can be summed up as being momentous and right for this age. Ferrari has accepted this challenge, also looking to the future and the possible transfer of this technology to its road cars. I think it really is a step forward that can prove to be very satisfactory.”

Ferrari then went on to say: “When I talk about new technologies, I don’t really mean the turbo so much, which for us is already part of the present as can be seen on the new California T, which we will launch at the Geneva Motor Show, fitted with a new generation turbocompressor, but rather I’m thinking of the hybrid aspect of the car, with the ability to recover energy from braking and from the exhaust gases linked to the turbo. This technology can lead to cars having amazingly low consumption levels and ever higher performance. In this sense, I believe Formula 1 can open the door to these new systems.”

As for the coming Formula 1 season, he added, “It’s hard to make predictions. For sure I can say that it will be complicated because there are many more variables. Up to last year, one only really had to take into account aerodynamics and tyres, while this year the power unit will have a much bigger role to play in deciding the outcome, not just in terms of outright power, but also when it comes to making strategic decisions. With just 100 kilos of fuel on board, one of the keys to the season will be consumption. It will be impossible to complete a GP pushing from start to finish. One will have to pay close attention and be able to react when it come to race tactics. That’s another reason why we opted for two experienced drivers.”

Merc doesn't have +75bhp over us.. Absolutely impossible unless they are allowed to run another 5 pounds of boost and have no fuel restrictions.. Given what I have seen in person, the chances of Merc being more than +5 bhp over us is about 0

What is it with you people? How do you know we're behind schedule? If anybody is behind schedule and running out of time its the Renault teams, ESPECIALLY Red Bull. Stop being such a chicken little.

Kimi is 3rd on the timesheet but before we started testing today we were behind schedule and now we're even further behind schedule. If we have more setbacks over the coming days we're in real trouble!

Yes and this is further proof that they were doing a fuel pick up test of the car as you don't want a stranded car with your new aero mods sitting for snap happy photographers for extended periods. Good sign.
    No need for concern.

No need to start calling names.

If you follow the media reports from Ferrari and non-Ferrari sources you will see that we are behind schedule. Not by much but enough to be a concern when we only have 3 days left. This is where we are based on the available information.

It's not far enough for any real concern.. If they were that worried, Nicola and Andrea wouldn't be busting up in the photo above. Carlo doesn't look stressed nor does Filippo. And I know what they look like when they are under the gun and they are not in a worried state.

Hopefully there won't be any more setbacks and we can have a nice problem free run in these 3 remaining test days. Would love to see my beloved Ferrari shutting all the doubters and whiners mouths with an awesome, strong showing at the first race. Come on boys, make Enzo proud!

I'm really excited for the first race, I think engine mapping or whatever the proper term may now be, is going to be the most important factor in determining those who are at the top. Not only will it maximize power it will make the most of the energy recovery systems and use the output at the best possible times, all while ensuring you have enough to get to the checkered flag!
Everyone is clamoring for aero advances, crying that this is the same FW Ferrari had in the last race of '13. IIRC they said that a 2014 FW design was being tried at Interlagos

Raikkonen targets race sim on final day

The Finn managed only 54 laps today, ending the day third fastest, 1.142s off Sergio Perez's fastest time of the day.

He hands over to Fernando Alonso tomorrow but is scheduled to return for the penultimate day, which should be his last run in the car before Friday practice for the Australian Grand Prix on March 14.

The Finn has completed fewer laps than Alonso so far in pre-season testing, with the Spaniard having been able to do some longer runs.

"We will try to do the race distance, for sure," said Raikkonen when asked what the focus will be for his final day in the car. "

"I haven't even tried to do it yet. I think Fernando did it so that's something that we are hopefully going to do and just see where we are really.

"[Beyond that], just normal things, trying things, learning again and hopefully we will be ready for the first race of the year."

Ferrari trialled some aerodynamic upgrades in Bahrain today, including a new front wing.

Although Raikkonen refused to draw any definitive conclusions, he is cautiously optimistic about progress.

"I am sure they were better otherwise we wouldn't have brought them," said Raikkonen.

"But there are still things to improve and things to try to put things together in the final moments [of testing].

"We will see where we are in the first race."

Raikkonen also claimed he is not worried about Ferrari's reliability relative to other teams.

While Mercedes and McLaren have both covered more ground pre-season, with 3073km and 2687km respectively, but Ferrari has logged only 400 less, with a figure of 2665km.

"I'm sure if we wanted to do 100 laps today, we could do," said Raikkonen.

"We had to do other things and try different things and try to see which way which changes go and learn a little bit because when it comes to race weekends there is not so much time to change stuff.

"At least I will have some idea of which way to go. I'm not too worried."

Ferrari goal is to win title – Raikkonen

Kimi Raikkonen says Ferrari's target is to win the title in 2014 despite the ominous form of Mercedes-powered cars.

The four Mercedes teams completed a total of 431 laps between them on the opening day of the final test in Bahrain, while Ferrari, Sauber and Marussia managed just 187. With Mercedes engines also filling three of the top four places on the timesheets the power unit has proven to be both quick and reliable but Raikkonen said Ferrari's targets have not changed.

“We try to win, that is pretty certain,” Raikkonen said. “Right now I don't know where we are. It's going to be a long season with the new rules and I'm sure some very difficult races. We have to try to start well and go from there.”

And pushed on whether he meant winning races or the title, Raikkonen replied: “Obviously I want to do both.”

However, Raikkonen admitted he still had no idea if the F14 T is capable of mounting a championship challenge.

“It's too early to say, we haven't started the season yet and it's going to be an awfully long season. Things can change quickly and I'm sure we can be pretty OK and if we're not up there at the beginning we have the tools to improve things.”

With his running on Thursday limited, Raikkonen also said he was unconcerned by the problems Ferrari has faced so far during testing.

“We just had some small problems, small issues, and then we decided to change some parts and save time. I still managed to do quite a few laps today and learn a bit more about the car. I would have liked to have a bit more in the end but that's how it goes.

“I think we will try to do a race distance on the last day and then see really how we are. We can also work on set-up and see how the last day goes and worry about the race. I've had much worse winters than what we've seen here so I'm not worried about that.”
