whatmore, McLaren havn't even put on their Melbourne spec car at all in Bahrain as button confirmed....oh god! as for us, we've already tested our main significant elements
god some people are the ever optimist, some of the excuses which they use to blind the truth, even tho the man himself has spoken
Looks like we're not able to do all the testing we wanted. Hopefully there's more to be found.
http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2014/03/0...nt-yet-alonso/Fernando Alonso says Ferrari fell short of their planned workload on the final day of testing in Bahrain.
He added the team are not yet on par with the front-running teams ahead of the first race of the season in Australia in two weeks’ time.
“The team did its utmost to carry out changes on the car as quickly as possible, but again today, we had planned to do more laps than we managed,” said Alonso.
“There are a lot of things to learn with the use of the power unit to improve the performance of the car and we are not yet where we want to be.”
Alonso’s best time brought the team within a second of the quickest lap seen in Bahrain over the past two weeks, set by Felipe Massa’s Williams yesterday.
“Everyone in the team is very competitive and we are working day and night in order to get all the potential out of the F14 T as soon as possible,” Alonso added.
Reliability yes, consuption NOPE.I believe the Hype about consuption is just to hide the true HP potential of this engine.100kg fuel are 140/150 L fuel, more and less the same amount that the TURBO f1 car had to fight in 87/88 with compression restriction, for them was a challenge, but after almost 30 years development on fuel Efficiency,do we still believe this is still a challenge.

Stefano was refering to the fact that Mercedes and Williams have done more testing Kms than us. He was talking about what has been visible on track.
Doesnt sound like he is trowing in the towel for AUS.
we're number one

it's ok, we are there, no reason to panic, much better position than winter 2013
I wonder what Stefano means by this. What size is he talking about
"We know that we have some big competitors in front of us, but we are here for that. In such an environment where the new powertrain is introduced, we have seen Mercedes acting very well so far. But they are a monster and we are smaller, and we want to show that even if we are smaller we can do a fantastic job."
After all Stefano knows how to put this reality into nice words when informing the head quarter.
Otherwise he wouldn't be there since so many faulty years ...
of course reliability will be very essential ... but does it count if you have at least 4-6 cars in front of you with same status of reliability but faster ... right: nothing
and yes: today Mercedes had some troubles too ... but don't you think this was on purpose? To run the machine on the max. level on the last day to get also some indicators for the future and react sooner than later? ...
How did 2011 and 2012 started? At least we can put our expectations downs as even the Boss himself doesn't count us to the favourites ... good marketing though
"If I was driving for Red Bull [from 2008] probably I would have more championships, but because they were dominating between 2010 and 2014 probably I would never have driven for Ferrari. I am very happy and very proud to drive for Ferrari, all my time there.
"we have seen Mercedes acting very well so far. But they are a monster and we are smaller, and we want to show that even if we are smaller we can do a fantastic job."
we are smaller?!?! ermm we are Ferrari
I would like get back to gear ratios of Williams. It can be the case that they did a gamble and take very short gears so they can be very quick on slow tracks and get big points but than loose big time on fast tracks. On Bahrain circuit acceleration is very important and that could be the reason why they are so fast in qualy sim. Plus that they could underweight car a little...
And I am comforting myself with possible scenario of Mercedes-Ferrari engine war. If Mercedes really have 50-70hp more than us, they can use that difference only in qualifications because of restricted fuel consumption in race. In theory more hp means bigger fuel consumption and there comes Ferrari with less hp lighter engine and better fuel consumption, so we should have better race pace. I pray this will be the case!
So far it looks like we are at least behind Mercedes and I find this the only way to beat them in first fue races.
And if I think better tires could play a part here too! Anyone have some info of how kind on tires is our car?
And now with Alonso's comments as well, I'm convinced we're in a spot of bother. The season hasn't started and already there's talk of catching up to the front runners. The confidence of earlier about our package has evaporated. Now we're sounding more like Renault - working day and night to improve the situation.

I think their was a rumour that Ferrari were shocked at how mercaes could get so much power out with sich little fuel, so they could have the best of two worlds
Domenicali brushed off rumours that the Ferrari engine is underpowered and heavier compared to its rivals, but admitted there was still work to do on the energy recovery system.
"First of all, I don't know [about the rumours] because I have heard so many numbers around it. I know what is for sure the situation on our side, and I can guarantee that what I heard are numbers that are throwing the dice in the air [and seeing what lands]!
"To be serious, I think that the most important thing we need to understand on our side is how to manage the balance between the electrical power, the ERS, the MGU-K and the battery. All those things have an effect in terms of horsepower and that's really something which I believe there is a lot of potential to take out."
Based on Stefano's comments about Ferrari not yet understanding how to extract the most from it's power unit, I can now accept that Mercedes has the better engine.

Oh he will surly say how he knew it was going to be Fernando's year right from testing.
How about we see how the first race weekend goes. This was just testing.
In two weeks we will know who is fast and who are looking good. We might even see a few different winners in the first couple of races as the teams get to grips with the new regulations.
But i am hoping just Ferrari pilots on the top step of the podium.
Wrong choice of words there Stefano."But they are a monster and we are smaller, and we want to show that even if we are smaller we can do a fantastic job."
They might be bigger in terms of the size of the company, but we MUST be bigger and are bigger because we're Ferrari and besides we've been in F1 much, much longer than Merc has. So no, please don't start using this "size of the company" talk as an excuse Stefano. That's not the way to go.![]()
KEEP CALM AND LOVE FERRARI
Does this mean our ERS wasn't running at the maximum limit? What is preventing the team from running at the maximum limit? It just sounds like excuses. Don't forget he has to report to Luca so it's in his job interest to make it sound less worse than it actually is.
Yes it looks like the Mercedes engine is the front runner at the moment and has the systems working well and It looks like(judging by what iv read) that ferrari are behind getting the best out of combining the new systems, too optimize the power and how the power is used, this is where having two seasoned drivers helps and also reliability is going too be a major factor in 1st 4 flyaway races. I'm sure back at the factory they will be working flat out on this, no points are given out on testing and we know what the targets are, remember its a long slog this season so being top team now would be great, we're there just behind but ready too challenge.
Kimi must be happy that he left Lotus, Massa must be happy that he left Ferrari, and Webber must be happy that he left F1.

Ferrari: Mercedes and Williams better prepared for 2014 F1 startBy Ben Anderson Sunday, March 2nd 2014, 16:40 GMT
Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali says rivals Mercedes and Williams have prepared better for the start of the new Formula 1 season than the Scuderia.
Fernando Alonso clocked the third fastest time on the final day of pre-season testing in Bahrain on Sunday, but wound up a second adrift of Lewis Hamilton's pacesetting Mercedes, and 0.7s alower than Valtteri Bottas's Mercedes-powered Williams.
Ferrari has also suffered a number of niggling reliability issues with the F14 T and Domenicali said the team has work to do to catch up.
"At the end of this session we have done around 4000km, Mercedes close to 5000, Williams more or less close to that number, that mans at the end of the day they prepare better for the start of the season," he said.
"It's a fact, so we have to start from this consideration, knowing that there is a huge amount of work to be done.
"Williams and Mercedes seem to be in very good shape, but that's what we have seen so far. I think we have a good base and we need to develop it.
"There is a lot of potential that needs to be discovered, that is the objective our engineers have to fix as soon as possible because the points we will score at the beginning of the season will be very heavy."
Domenicali suggested Ferrari still has not worked out how to extract the best from its new power unit, which appears to lag behind the Mercedes engine package at present.
"I think the most important thing to understand on our side is how to manage the balance between electrical power, the ERS, the battery, all these things have an effect in terms of horsepower," he added.
"We also need to get used to the massive difference of the car in terms of layout and management.
"This will have an effect on everyone, because if you have an issue, depending on what it is, during FP3 it will be an interesting challenge to be ready for qualifying, so I think that everyone has to learn.
"Some have shown to be a little bit ahead of the others, but let's wait and see when it counts."
Season did not started, and yet we al;l ready have words of excuse from SD....
