It happened today – 8 March

Eleven years ago today, Ferrari monopolised the front row of the grid for the Australian Grand Prix at Melbourne. On pole, in the old F2002, was Michael Schumacher, who beat team-mate Rubens Barrichello by 245 thousandths and Juan Pablo Montoya in the Williams by almost a second. Heinz-Harald Frentzen was fourth in the Sauber, over a second down.
Wet weather in the race jumbled things up and the Ferrari drivers weren’t immune from making mistakes. Schumacher hit a wall, damaging the car on his way to finishing fourth, under three tenths of Kimi Raikkonen’s McLaren and less than ten seconds behind the winner and the Finn’s team-mate, David Coulthard. As for Barrichello, his race was over in under ten minutes, as the Brazilian spun while lying second. Thus ended a run of consecutive podium finishes that had begun in September 1999.

Imagine how dominant we were that we were able to use a last year's car and still be in front. Good old times, I miss them...
