Some thoughts from EDD STRAW at the end of that session. First, to the session-topping Ferrari.

"Again noticeable with the Ferrari are the super smooth downshifts. The car looks strong on corner entry. That said, drivers seem to have to be a bit more cautious on throttle application at corner exits."

    good start
i am hoping good finish :)

when was the last time we led fp1? its usually a good sign the car is top line, even if its so early.

Not sure what to make of it, I mean yea of course it's absolutely fantastic to see Alonso on P1 with +0,5 secs. faster time, but on the other hand, Kimi was over a second slower...that's not good. Hopefully in FP2 Kimi will get more running and gets up there as well.

But all in all, a good start to our season. Well done guys!

If Ferrari and Merc engine cars (save for lewis) will prove reliable in this Aussie GP, then, it is very possible that Marussia will have its maiden point scored, Go Bianchi, Go Ferrari!

Anyone know what the reason behind Kimi's lack of running and lack of pace was compared to Alonso? Serious answer please, no heckling.

He only ran one lap less than FA. Alonso ran 20 and Kimi did 19.

I'm at the track and one thing is for sure the cars are much looser when getting on the power coming out of the corners. Also as a side note I like the sound of the new engines because they all sound quite unique, but listening in to people's conversations f1 has definitely lost some of it's appeal to casual fans. Lots of comments being made about how quiet they are, even compared to the v8 super cars

From the looks of it Kimi seemed to be 'battling' the car or rather the torque a lot more than Fernando. Looks like he hasnt gotten the setup to his liking yet.
Fernando seemed so much more comfortable driving the car.
Kimi doing 19 laps is a revelation to me too ! They hardly showed his laps.

“His performances were astonishing! Even the Ferrari engineers don’t fully understand how he managed to get some of the podiums he did.”

It would be so amusing to see us take pole after Gary Anderson said our design made no sense

Of course he'd backtrack, just like when he praised the 2013 McLaren design, only to then claim they changed it before the first race which is why they were slow.

Both men did three runs, all on the Medium tyre. Both Fernando and Kimi concentrated on running checks on the car systems as well as making some changes to mapping and set-up, also doing some practice starts.

Fernando Alonso had the honour of being the very first man out on track this season, proof that he wants to get stuck in! He also went off at Turn 1, but no damage was done.

Nope, look at the Santander logo, different rear wing, the one on the top has a big gurney that works almost as a 3rd flap

They both have it. Only difference I am seeing is that the Santander "sticker" is in different position. Both have the wing with the slats btw.

I think this is where Kimi normally runs in practice, getting the car setup to his driving style. No worries mate.

Yeah, they stick the Santander sticker at different height. Otherwise I believe the rear wings are exactly the same
