Brundle says Ferrari believes that Mercedes could be like last year, ranking well but lacking pace.
On the US (NBC Sports) Will Buxton's last commentary from pit lane at the end of FP2 was that all of the cars, and he emphasized ALL were having cooling issues, that they all smelled of burning oil products. So between that & the fact it's a high fuel demand type of track, should be pretty interesting on race day. Still calling for only 66˚F/19˚C Sunday, so that may avert some overheating for teams right on the edge of spontaneous combustion![]()

Seriously ! By the last 15 mins or so i HAD muted it ! i just could not stand that clown croft yapping on and on sucking on who-know-who's you-know-what !
I actually thought to myself ' the terror ! am going to have to listen to them yap for another whole practice session tomorrow ' . Post that ofcourse would be Qualifying so what they say wont matter.
I also noticed how Ferrari got meagre coverage ! In the 1.5 hours of the session the Ferraris were hardly shown relative to the 'oh so popular' Mercs.
Extremely annoying.
“His performances were astonishing! Even the Ferrari engineers don’t fully understand how he managed to get some of the podiums he did.”
Some info for comparison purposes:
Lap Record: 1:24.125 - M Schumacher (2004)
2013 Fastest in race lap: 1:29.274 - K Raïkkönen
2013 Pole Position: 1:27.407 - S Vettel

Hi all, missed both practices? So how did we do?
It's quite worrying looking at those times, but of course we don't know what the circumstances are. Lets hope we'll find better pace for race.
Australia is usually odd too due to the nature of the track. But I don't think it's a heavy fuel consumption track, so we'd better not have any fuel issues here![]()
Proviso on race pace is fuel consumption. Rosberg said he was using too much every lap. But all struggling with it

No monkey seat
According to GPupdate also Rosberg has concerns about fuel consumption, don't know what to believe. Why would ROS say that in public just before the quali/race?
ENGINE CHANGE FOR HAMILTON: no penalty as its free practice and the first gp etc etc
Missed both practices this morning but was reading through posts... I don't know what to think yet... Only thing for sure is merc is first .... Red Bull is back from their seemingly terrible testing and we are 0.5 sec down... For those that watched it how do we look??
"That has made me fall in love with Ferrari even more today than ever." Fernando Alonso
SCRAP THAT POST ABOVE^^^^ they did this on Thursday and thu will not count as one of their five engines as did not leave the garage
I fancy we can compete for the win on Sunday.

Ferrari team and drivers report from day one of the Australian Grand Prix weekend, Round 1 of the 2014 Formula 1 World Championship, at Albert Park in Melbourne.
Kimi Raikkonen, P1 – 1:32.977, 9th; P2 – 1:30.898, 7th
“That was a pretty demanding day, because although we managed to complete our programme, it wasn’t trouble-free. In the first session we lost a bit of time, but that didn’t prevent us acquiring enough data to evaluate the overall handling of the car and the Pirelli compounds. This evening there will be a lot of work to do, especially to understand what didn’t work and to try and improve for qualifying and the race”.
Fernando Alonso, P1 – 1:31.840, 1st; P2 – 1:30.132, 3rd
“On the first Friday of the season, there’s always a bit more tension. It’s the start of a new championship and there is the feeling of general expectation to see how things we worked on during the winter are functioning. Overall, this was a positive day for us and even if there was an element of nervousness because of the complexity introduced by the new technical regulations, everything went well. The team did a super job and we had no problems. The track improved from the first session to the second, with more grip compared to the morning and there was also more wind. Running the soft tyre certainly helped, as the extra grip meant the times came down, but it’s impossible to have a clear idea of how competitive we are, because as usual, Friday results don’t mean much. To know more, we must wait until everyone is running in the same trim”.
Pat Fry, Ferrari chassis director

Looks like RB found another loophole in the front wing.

I guess we can assume that if McLaren is facing that issue, surely Merc too will face it since it's the exact same power unit?@SkySportsF1 1m
