Thumbs up Alonso urges Ferrari to stay calm after slow start to F1 season

how many people saw this coming? now instead of bashing Stefano, least can now bash Fernando for saying it

Fernando Alonso has urged his Ferrari team to stay calm in the fight for the 2014 Formula 1 world championship, after a disappointing result in the Australian Grand Prix.

The double world champion won a close fight with Nico Hulkenberg's Force India to finish fifth on the road in Melbourne last Sunday, but was promoted to fourth in the final classification when Daniel Ricciardo's Red Bull was excluded from second spot for consistently exceeding the maximum 100kg/h fuel flow limit.

Alonso was disappointed to finish 35 seconds behind Nico Rosberg's race-winning Mercedes, and he urged his team to work harder to make the F14 T more competitive for the coming races.

"It is just the first race so no one can say who will win the championship after just the first race or who will lose it," said Alonso when asked whether he felt Ferrari could catch Mercedes.

"We need to be calm, to do better next time and just to try to understand the areas to improve and the areas we seem strong.

"Mercedes looked very strong in winter testing and they were very strong here and they won the race because they deserve [it].

"At the moment they are a little bit ahead of everyone; we need to improve and reduce that gap to minimum and hopefully finish in front of them."

All the Ferrari-engined teams suffered electronic issues with their power units during the race and Alonso added that the problems suffered by Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel - who both failed to finish - were only a small consolation to him.

"Mercedes is very strong but we have 10 points more than Hamilton and 10 more than Vettel," he said.

"But we are not happy with these 35 seconds behind Rosberg and we need to do better next time."

No, he is speaking the truth, that alot of people dont like to hear. Staying calm and looking at data, set-ups and developments is the way to go. Not firing people and calling for heads to roll because they say "stay calm".

would have been better for Alonso to go crazy in the media? As nobody is bigger then the team - especially when the team is called Ferrari?
We all know what would have happened ... even here by all the real fans who really love the team and really deserved to be called Tifoso

"If I was driving for Red Bull [from 2008] probably I would have more championships, but because they were dominating between 2010 and 2014 probably I would never have driven for Ferrari. I am very happy and very proud to drive for Ferrari, all my time there.

Okay for me if you have problem of the name of on of the greatest F1 driver in history
Some have here Schumi names when he was our rival too at Merc ... to help you out

And when I read your posts where you just give the advice: you're better than apply for job at Ferrari ... or write Luca a letter ...
I can deal with how I'm acting in your eyes - really

But a simple solution for you as you already know my childish behaviour: go ahead over my postings while I haven't acted against the rules here ... Deal?

I don't have a problem with it and he was not the greatest, but anyway he was a rival.

I have no idea what the rest of your post is meant to mean, I guess it is something childish?

it meant as long Greig give always accurate answers like:
    - if you think you do better job, go and apply at Ferrari ...
    - go and support another team if you want to be a winner

I feel in good society ... thats all

    Actually opposite.
Luca di Montezemolo is in the middle of nowhere and lost. So Fernando Alonso enlightens Ferrari's twilight situation.

In one or two of the articles there is negative atmosphere and in this one interestingly there is positive one. This is strange and funny. I don't know why am i laughing right now?

To me both Alonso and Kimi are more or less saying the same thing.
The car has much more potential then it showed in Australia but Ferrari need to work hard to close the gap to Mercedes.

I don't know what to say. Just look at the head to head race comparison between Fernando Alonso and Kevin Magnussen in below site. We were sand bagging in the first race

one of the reasons i posted it. As, if Stefano would of come out and said it, all hell would of broken out. But as Fernando, and Kimi said pretty much the same, its all ok.

That Alonso was rebuked for stating the truth last year says everything about the management of the Scuderia at present.

Sadly Fernando would seem to have had his fire dampened. Ferrari have a poor history of ignoring the words of winners. Not once have the Scuderia benefitted from such a policy.

I don't think it's so much about what he said, as much as every year he says exactly the same thing just worded a bit differently, if we don't finish on the podium at Sepang i'd imagine everyone here could write a post race SD quote now and be there or thereabouts, the fustration is not that he says these things, but that we hear the same 'keep calm' and 'we're working hard to find solutions' speech year after year, and it appears really nothing changes, Fernando on the other hand tried to voice an honest opinion and was reprimanded for not towing the party line, so now he has the same PR team as SD writing his press releases, although I'm not quite ready to grab my pitchfork and burning torch and demand SD's head, I do understand the fustration of some members, I remember the good old days when Jean Todt hated Ron Dennis, Paul Stoddart hated Ron, and everyone hated Stoddart, we all knew where we were, last years SD, Whitmarsh, Horner love in was all a bit much, i'm not suprised at all Ron has taken control of McLaren back, Whitmarsh wasn't getting the job done and changes were needed, how long is SD going to be allowed to continue doing (what is in truth) a mediocre job...?

Einstein once said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results...

    Prost. 1991.

It's rather well known if you know the first thing on the subject.

It is alarming that a Moderator knows so little.

Prost that slated the car in public? I am not sure how you get from that he asked for anything and was ignored? It's alarming that a Ferrari fan (if you are) would try and suggest Ferrari don't listen to their drivers.

I could off course counter your point by telling you how MS arrived and the team gave him pretty much everything he asked for, but that would not suit your agenda. Alarming that a Ferrari fan (if you are) would not be aware of this.

Also I am not a moderator.
