Alonso: no “magical change” for Bahrain

Fernando Alonso believes the pecking order in Bahrain will be similar to Malaysia and that there will be no “magical change” as the teams’ only have 5 days in which to prepare.

Alonso told ESPN sport “For Bahrain, I don’t think the picture will change that much from here [in Malaysia]. It’s only five days between so there will not be any magical change in any of the teams.

“The track characteristics are a little bit different, so if we’re slow on the straights probably we will see a weakness and cars that have a good top speed will be competitive in Bahrain, like Williams at the [pre-season] test with Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas. It’s going to be tough again, but somehow we manage to be in the top five and at the moment with the performance we have we have scored some good points. We must continue to finish the race.”

“The team is doing a massive effort to catch up and improve the situation. Personally I would like to fight for victories, but as long as you are in front of your team-mate you are doing something extra that the people expect. [Besides] we have only done two races, we are analysing and we are going deep into the analysis of the areas we need to improve. It seems very clear to us. We will improve, that’s for sure.”

I'm tired of these excuses, it's not 'only five days', it has been two months since the first tests, any team could be finishing a big upgrade by now and sending it to Bahrain.

"If I was driving for Red Bull [from 2008] probably I would have more championships, but because they were dominating between 2010 and 2014 probably I would never have driven for Ferrari. I am very happy and very proud to drive for Ferrari, all my time there.

Always count in Fernando for a reality check. With not top speed and traction, this GP is going to be a nightmare.

Well to be fair, we've had problems with the PU in Australia. Problems implies that something unexpected showed up, and the team have to react to it.

I think any team who can make long term development plans and stick to it is very lucky. More often we would encounter unknown problems and challenges, and we have to adept our development program to react to these issue. Perhaps the team learned something new in Sepang, and they will have to find solutions to it.
