Montezemolo: "Don't worry, we'll get back to winning ways soon"

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo is upbeat after the appointment of new team principal Marco Mattiacci: "Mattiacci is the right choice. I'm willing to stick my neck out for him", noted the 'Scuderia' supremo.

Montezemolo is also optimistic about a change of fortunes in the upcoming races: "Don't worry, we'll get back to winning ways soon". He added that the next few Grands Prix will be crucial in determining whether Ferrari can challenge at the top of the World Championship standings, where Mercedes are currently flying high: "The next four or five races will be decisive in seeing whether we can catch up with Mercedes".

Briatore: "There are no excuses when you have a driver like Alonso"

Flavio Briatore is back in the spotlight after giving an interview to 'La Gazzetta dello Sport', in which he discussed the latest developments at Ferrari. The Italian backed the changes at the top, praising Stefano Domenicali while admitting that he understands his decision to quit in light of the disappointing results.

"They needed to shake things up. You can't keep saying 'we're looking ahead to next year'. Stefano is a great worker, but F1 is a competition and results are what matter, and they have fallen short of Ferrari's expectations in recent years. There can be no excuses when you have a driver like Alonso, who is one of the best on the grid. The engineers can't say 'if only we had a better driver, we'd be stronger'", the former Benetton and Renault supremo noted.

As much as I would love to see that happening, I'm afraid we're still quite far away from that. It all depends on the next couple of races, if we bring good updates to China and Spain and manage to make some significant steps forward then perhaps we can start thinking about getting back to winning ways...one can only hope.

I dont want to be pessimistic but it will be very difficult .Montezemolo always say such of thing without fact so he puts this word just to calm all tifosi in the world and the Agnelli family. It s just politic.

Yes, I know that it will be difficult, I think everbody knows that. But it would be very weird if Luca would say "It's going to be impossible to get back to winning ways and it's all over." And besides, you never know how things can change in F1, nothing is impossible. Gotta have faith in our team, no matter what.

It really might be his neck on the line if results stay at current level.
Too much blame has been put on Domenicali, he was not the ultimate decision maker, Luca was and is.

And now Luca says that he didn't want a mercenary to lead the team. So he toke a car salesman instead..
I hope that Mattiacci proves that I'm wrong, that he really is something special, something this team needs right now.

How quickly we forget around these parts.. Imagine that the cheat never pulled that stupid stunt with the organized crash. Massa and Ferrari would have a WDC.

But lets tarnish a great name by adding a cheat who was caught red handed. Did you ever stop to think that the FIA would watch him like a hawk and we would not even be able to use the bathroom before races without an escort.

Don't worry, we will be winning soon. But if next 4 races will be bad, we will give up this season... Don't worry.

    This is not entirely true.
There is a certain level of delegation in the chain of command and yes, SD were making the decisions , not LcDM alone, or SD 's position would not be necessary, actually same will take now place with MM.

LcDM holds the responsibility (in my opinion) about not sacking SD earlier.

Insiders in Italy say that The Agnelli family are very angry with what The scuderia Ferrari is doing and they are in center of this change , they put extreme pressure on Montezemolo to change the dynamic if the scuderia is continuing to fall then lucas will be replace by one of the member Agnelli.2 year ago one of the son agnelli was in Ferrari garage at monza and the speculation was there for a replacement by Lucas (when lucas wants to enter in italian politic).Fiat spend million and million and agnelli family is right in Lucas neck if he doesn t deliver.

I read that part of Luca's statement and my initial thought was the same.

We can, at this stage, only hope that it doesn't come to haunt him.

Luca evidently has faith in his appointment.

Which would be enough to pacify most Tifosi....if it wasn't for the fact that he had faith in his last appointment!

Oh well. It's tough at the top.

You said the correct word, "got caught!" He's for sure no worse than all the other F1 big guys who have yet to be caught. Again I agree with you the FIA needs Briatore's return so as to wake up and watch all teams like a hawk. It's the mentality of not keeping up with the other teams that has us in the shape were in. Were based in Marenello not the Vatican. Flavio IMO is the right man for the job at Ferrari.

Sorry for my english, but I think this is just a classic case, how always rolls downwards. I mean Domenicali gets all the blame and LDM washes his hands by firing him.
For example, why it took so long to get that new, working wind tunnel? I would guess that was up to Luca, not Domenicali.
