Reality is, he doesn't have much choice. He already has two F1 championships. He considers a title with Ferrari to be something extra, something higher then just another title. So he will stay to achieve that higher goal. There is a possibility that he will never get that title. He knows that ofcourse, but what can he do?
If he leaves for another team, he has no guarantee of winning either. But in the worst case, if he left and Ferrari builds a winning car a year later, he would never forgive himself.
Fernando Alonso is in a position that he can't leave, even if he had the opportunity. Because what he really wants deep inside, is that title in red.
