You can run like the wind, but you'll never outrun the Prancing Horse
Fernando Alonso will be involved in future projects at Ferrari, claims the Maranello team spokesman, amid swirling reports in the Monaco paddock that the Spaniard’s patience with the Maranello team is finally at an end.
Alonso hinted strongly at his unhappiness on Wednesday, when he welcomed the praise of Daimler chairman Dieter Zetsche and said it was “curious” those closer to him do not make similar declarations.
Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo reacted swiftly, describing the 32-year-old as “the best driver in the world” and denying the existence of a “polemical situation”. Nonetheless, there are those who continue to doubt that Alonso will still be wearing red in 2015.
Some think that he could move to Mercedes or return to McLaren, and the latter British team’s supremo Ron Dennis on Thursday reportedly said the door to Woking remains open, so long as the team can build a fully competitive car, “With the 2015 Honda car we hope to have just that.”
But a Ferrari spokesman told Spain’s sports Marca newspaper that Alonso remains committed, “He is committed to being involved in future projects, rebuilding the team to a winning one. He is not someone who is thinking about leaving.”
Many believe that Alonso would be appeased if Ferrari is successful in luring Adrian Newey from Red Bull. Red Bull has tried to stop those reports, issuing a statement quoting Newey as committing to the reigning world champions for “the foreseeable future”.
And new Ferrari team boss Marco Mattiacci issued a simple “no” on Thursday when asked if he has invited Newey to Maranello, “We are working a lot with [technical director James] Allison, someone extremely competent who has a future at Ferrari.”
He also hailed Alonso’s contribution, “Fernando Alonso is a great champion and I am absolutely delighted to have him on our team,” said Mattiacci. I like people who are fighters and are always pushing for better.”

KEEP CALM AND LOVE FERRARI
You know, I am so tired of these stories. He leaves, he leaves. Fine, he ain't god. No way. Ferrari will continue on, lots of work to do, FA or not FA. What on earth !
Yes, I have huge admiration for the driver and wish he had had a competitive Ferrari to win with Ferrari, but hey, it has not happened and it might not happen in the future. Ferrari will stay and FA will retire.
Alonso have been saying that many times, but no one ever listens. Instead the media continues to write creative stories about Alonso leaving, and some people continue moaning about it like Alonso or Ferrari's fault the media write these stuff. It's a never ending cycle![]()
more rumors next year:
Fernando Replaces HAM at merc 99% ( cuz HAM is so annoying cry baby to any team he joins LOL)
All Alonso fans leave TSN next year 98.9%
TSN goes bankrupt cuz all the money Alonso fans were pitching in is gone 0.01%
Kimbots happy 100% wait scratch that 1% only cuz robots have no emotions
but honestly yeah I think ALO does want to goto MERC what driver doesn't want that car right now, just paint it red tho
edit maybe the car but not the team
I wouldn't have any problem if he left either. I mean I wish and hope he stays, cause he's a great driver, but if he goes then he goes, no big tragedy. The most important thing is that Ferrari would build a good car and then we can win together with someone else. Ferrari will go on, with or without Alonso.
KEEP CALM AND LOVE FERRARI
It's in times like these that you need to do whatever you can to hang onto drivers of that calibre. Ferrari are no longer the reference team and cannot call the shots as easily as when they were stronger. Alonso of course is expendable but at the moment Ferrari need him more than Alonso needs Ferrari. Let's hope this balance changes as it cannot carry on like this forever. It will be a blow for Ferrari if Alonso walks out but if Ferrari terminate his contract not as much if you take Ferrari's stance. Pride is at stake here!
Well I don't quite agree with the "Ferrari needs Alonso more than Alonso needs Ferrari" part...cause if Alonso doesn't play his cards right then there's a possibility that he could end up with no drive at all or ends up driving for Force India. However I do agree that while Ferrari doesn't have a very good car then a driver like Alonso who can find a way to drive around the car's deficiencies is a very good asset to have, but certainly not indispensable. When Schumi left then everybody thought that it would be a huge blow for Ferrari as well, which in many ways it was, but when the car is good and fast then Ferrari can still win, as Kimi and Massa proved in 2007 and 2008. If Alonso should leave then really not much would change for Ferrari, the biggest priority would still be building a good car and if we manage to do that then good results will come anyway. But, like I already said earlier and have said many times before...I hope Alonso will stay, at least till the end of his contract.
KEEP CALM AND LOVE FERRARI
While I do think the likes of Vettel or Lewis (hell maybe Riccardo) can take Alonso's place, I do believe we need a great driver to win the title even with a winning capable car. For example, had Mark Webber been the best driver Red Bull had, they may not have won the title. They had a great car, but they still needed Vettel to win the WDC as Mark wasn't able to achieve the best result the car was capable of. Some may say Mark had bad luck, but there were races where Alonso beaten Mark in a normal race situation. Just goes to show how important Vettel's role was in the team.
I also do not believe we'll build another car like the one we had in 2004, the rules are different now. Competition will always be close, and I do hope as things settle down, technical differences between teams will be smaller.
So if and when Alonso leaves, Ferrari will have to go all out to get another great driver to ensure we have the right driver when our turn comes where we build a winning car.
If Alonso leave, I would be excited to see how the likes of Lewis and Vettel, or any upcoming great drivers do in Ferrari, but I would not assume we can get them easily over the other top teams.
Some people yet to know how a great driver Fernando Alonso is.

Former McLaren and Ferrari driver Alain Prost has some advice for those beleaguered F1 teams — “do something different”.
“If you compare them to Red Bull and Mercedes, you see that Ferrari and McLaren have only continued to work in the same way as they always did,” the quadruple world champion is quoted by Spain’s Marca newspaper.
“Sometimes you have to stop, make a plan and start again. Sometimes you have to do something different,” Prost added.
The F1 legend believes Ferrari‘s problems can be traced back to “when Michael Schumacher left”, while McLaren’s decline began when Adrian Newey switched to Red Bull.
According to swirling rumours in Monaco, McLaren could be looking to boost its fortunes ahead of the works Honda partnership in 2015 by making a swoop for Fernando Alonso.
“Fernando would be welcome back at McLaren,” McLaren ‘supremo’ Ron Dennis, who clashed so infamously with the Spaniard back in 2007, reportedly told the Italian press.
“You’re surprised that I’m talking about Fernando? I don’t have any problem — the most important thing is for us to win again.
“In 2015 we have the Honda engine and we need a great driver.”
McLaren’s current lead driver, Jenson Button, was asked by Spain’s AS newspaper if Alonso will be at McLaren next year.
“He has a Ferrari contract,” the smiling Briton replied.
“Yes it would be a great challenge to have him as a teammate.”
According to two British F1 correspondents, there may be some truth to the Alonso rumours.
Jonathan McEvoy, of the Daily Mail, cited ‘sources’ as he reported that ‘meetings’ have already taken place.
And The Times’ Kevin Eason agreed that “It is an open secret that McLaren have approached Alonso”.
However, while Alonso has sounded frustrated with life at Ferrari recently, returning to struggling McLaren might not be at the top of his wish list.
“I’m happy,” he told France’s L’Equipe. “I have a great life, I’m a Ferrari driver — it doesn’t get much better.
“A third title would be the icing on the cake for my career. So many great drivers have won three titles.”
Flavio Briatore, close to Alonso throughout his career, said in Monaco: “Fernando has a contract with Ferrari, so it’s out of the question to go elsewhere unless something extraordinary happens.
“He, like everyone else, has difficult moments, and like every driver he wants a competitive car, and he can’t solve the problems of an entire team by himself,” the Italian is quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Let's keep all this discussion in one thread, there will be a lot of these types of rumors until next year...
Rest in Peace Leza, you were a true warrior...
You know, with so much bs and uncertainty floating around what gets instilled and leaves constant, lingering, traumatizing impression is how delirious LdM is.
What would be a nice thing to happen so that folk at maranello can see this ? Something contrasting.
I can not think of better idea than this. Put Luca into the race seat so he gets to drive his superb, scarlet, historic, "beautiful" car. Meanwhile you put Alonso into team supremo position. For a season or two. The delirious guy will quickly see what a bucket/bathtub of a car his team is producing year after year, while the other guy would probably as quickly discover new "friends" in technical department, those who are responsible for those atrocities put together, he gets to drive with no hope for improvement.
In the ideal world, Alonso would hold an advanced degree in mechanical engineering besides his feisty racing character. So would Luca. What if Alonso had the knowledge Newey has designing cars...
Of course, this is just a dream. What you get instead is a guy you can not trust to make sound judgement since he is just an MBA. Critically and crucially, he has no knack for engineering. Forget engineering. He probably lacks what people call "critical thinking" ability. And in times like these there needs to be a certain figure who can lead the drowning team out of this vicious circle. Someone with clear technical vision of what is wrong. Ferrari needs technical leadership. Somehow either they do not empower skilled people or they empower another Domenicalis, Mattiaccis, etc etc.
An old, wise and accomplished academician at the school I used to go resented MBA types. I asked him privately, what was wrong with them ? His response was : "Everything. Do you know how MBAs solve problems ? First - they do not. Second - they just `fire him`". In my own experience, I get to see large body of facts that support his notion. And I feel more and more sentimental with the old man.
Um...
Anyway Flavio Briatorie used to be a salesmen before he was involved in motorsport, but look what he did with Schumi and Alonso. Not only did Flavio recognized their potential, he had successfully put together a team capable of winning the title thus utilizing both driver's talent. He did it twice with Schumi and Alonso, proving that it wasn't just luck, but he knows what he was doing.
It doesn't matter what background they come from, being a great manager is not something we learn from universities. If there's one quality that Luca DM saw in Domenicali and Mattiacci that made him decide they are the right people for this job, it is their ability to manage an organization of people. The only thing Mattiacci lacks is the experience in motorsport, but Luca probable believe he will be able to learn quickly and be prepare to lead the team by next year or so.
Let me see if I understand this correctly.... Engineers are smart because they don't fire people, MBA's are stupid because they fire people.... LdM hasn't fired anyone, SD left on his own so he must still be smart.... yet you still want him fired.... which is a very MBA kind of thing to do according to your own statement.... are you an MBA then?
Rest in Peace Leza, you were a true warrior...
THIS...
and THIS...Alonso: “I’m happy,” “I have a great life, I’m a Ferrari driver — it doesn’t get much better.
is what is truly important. All the other things that are being said by the media is just noise in the background.Flavio Briatore, close to Alonso throughout his career, said in Monaco: “Fernando has a contract with Ferrari, so it’s out of the question to go elsewhere unless something extraordinary happens.
Of course Ron keeps an eye out for Alonso, just as every other team boss does, it's nothing surprising. But what really matters is that at the moment Alonso has a contract with Ferrari and I won't believe any of these rumors and stories about him "supposedly going to some other team" until it's 100% completely official.
KEEP CALM AND LOVE FERRARI
I don't know, but my feeling from mid-season last year, is that FA is not the "beast" he used to be. Probably he is tired to have a medium car at his disposal. Remember, his only really good car was the Renault of 2006...
