Belgian Spa-Francorchamps GP 2014 Race Thread

I have positive feeling about this race. I am going to watch this race with this feeling. Knowing Alonso race craft skills and hoping Ferrari has brought some upgrades which according to Kimi seems to be working we can aim for podium.
    Forza Ferrari!!!Forza Fernando!!!

    Alonso eyes podium assault

Fernando Alonso believes Ferrari can target a podium finish in today's Belgian Grand Prix after qualifying in fourth place.

The wet conditions at Spa on Saturday appeared to suit Ferrari, with Alonso admitting he was surprised how competitive the car has been so far this weekend. With both Williams cars behind him Alonso concedes it will be a tough race but is encouraged enough by the pace shown on Friday to believe a second consecutive podium is a realistic target.

“We'll see, I think the possibility is there, no doubt,” Alonso said. “We are in a good position in fourth and we have some people around us with good race pace, like [Daniel] Ricciardo and the Williams and we need to fight hard to be on the podium. But we know the Mercedes, even if they look very quick, they have had some mechanical problems in the last races and we need to be there to take any opportunities.”

And Alonso admitted he feels he has had “a perfect weekend so far” having been quick in every session at a track he has never won.

“It has been a good surprise, the weekend in general. We will see how we can finish [the weekend] and hopefully taking good points. We expected to have Williams quite strong here, but maybe with qualifying being wet it masked their true pace, so maybe in dry conditions we can expect them to be very competitive.

“Also, it has been a circuit that I have never done anything special here – this is my second best qualifying after 2007 with the McLaren – but now I'm in front of the Williams and one second in front of my team-mate who has won here four times. It's been a perfect weekend so far. “

It's amazing to think Alonso has never won there, but there's a first time for everything

Seems like a sunny day at Spa according to Ferrari's twitter.

Could be a tough race for us. Williams will be stronger, mcLaren might even be too with Merc power advantage down the straight.

Mclaren has butterfly susspension arm and that could cost them on the straights.

We need rain otherwise we'll be sitting ducks. We went for a wet setup. It may or may not work in our favor. At the moment it doesn't look good for us.

Alonso seems to be optimistic.....compared to pre qualifying.

Not that it would make a difference for Mercs, but only them and ferrari chose a high downforce set up amoung the front runners. Given how quickly things can change at spa plus Mercs reliability issues if it rains we might be in for a good race.

I also have a sneaky feeling that Ferrari's insistence on concentrating on reliability might just pay off towards the end of this season.

Anyway good luck to both our champs

"If I was driving for Red Bull [from 2008] probably I would have more championships, but because they were dominating between 2010 and 2014 probably I would never have driven for Ferrari. I am very happy and very proud to drive for Ferrari, all my time there.

Hello to All of You, from me :))))) I am optimistic, after all that summer break and silly season blablabla thing. Forza Ferrari :)))

P.S. Don't get me wrong. I read somewhere on the web that Alonso said that , it is important in the right moment to have the best tyres for the conditions.....! I remember that yesterday , Ferrari ( and some other teams, probably), choosed full wets, instead of intermedias and it was not the best decision. I really hope we have luck and a good stratergy :))))

And why do they claim then that he never won at Spa? See report of the posting of @vcs316.

if merc is running high df they could be in trouble if the williams get through the pack fast enough at the start since they have low df if the reports are correct
