Mattiacci doffs his hat to Red Bull

Although Mercedes have the best car on the grid, Red Bull and Daniel Ricciardo have kept their Brackley rivals honest and the Australian has reaped the benefits as he has won three races to be 64 points behind Championship leader Nico Rosberg.

"I take inspiration from everybody around the paddock, everything," Mattiacci is quoted as saying by Crash.net. "Not only Red Bull, I take inspiration from everybody. So we need to definitely keep working because what Red Bull is proving is that when there is an opportunity they are taking it. So kudos to them and kudos to Ricciardo who is proving to be an important driver..."

Ricciardo is the only driver besides Mercedes pair Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton win races this season and, although Mattiacci knows Merc remain way ahead of the rest of the pack, he feels there will always be opportunities to surprise.

"It is clear that Mercedes keeps showing an impressive and consistent performance, in particular with the overall package. So with that we have been facing every race with concern about our lack of competitiveness," he said.

"But at the same time there's always opportunities arising because Formula One racing is still about drivers, human beings, strategy - so let's try to be extremely disciplined and focused and keep doing what we have been doing. That is to keep very calm, make the right decision knowing that we are a way from the top and take any opportunities."

Yep, Red Bull have done a great job this season, despite their bad Renault PU, they've some how managed to work around it and turn things around from the horrible winter testing where their car could barely leave the pits at times, to the second best car on the grid.

Their chassis has to be incredible seeing how they could use little to no wing in Spa and still deliver the times they did in S2. And seeing how bad the other teams with the Renault PU are doing (namely Lotus), we have to double our efforts for next season to beat not only Mercedes but also RB.

Welp there you go... Marco said it: "keep very calm." I suppose that's that, then.

Agreed. Quite a turnaround when you think about it. They've clearly built an aerodynamic base philosophy and this has helped them make good progress.

    true true
compared to all others RB 'wear' nearly no wing and still they have plenty of grip ...
so if Renault really has their 2015 engine in test mode and clearly focus on RB ... we haven't the smallest gap to mess it up just a bit ... again ...
"If I was driving for Red Bull [from 2008] probably I would have more championships, but because they were dominating between 2010 and 2014 probably I would never have driven for Ferrari. I am very happy and very proud to drive for Ferrari, all my time there.

I think Mattiacci is praising Ricciardo more than RBR, I mean Vettel is nowhere in the championship.

RBR has a good aerodynamic baseline we don't,
Even though we are matched with poor PU they can outperform us.
We need to improve our aero and PU.

Let's just hope we don't get too clouded by our PU's weaknesses that we overlook
other innovations on the aero side that the other teams have incorporated this season
and get's left out again next year even with a better PU.
