Ferrari appoint Maurizio Arrivabene as new Team Principal

Ferrari have confirmed the replacement of Marco Mattiacci as team principal, seven months after he took the job.

Mattiacci’s place will be taken by Maurizio Arrivabene, who has joined Ferrari from their sponsor Philip Morris, which owns the Marlboro tobacco brand.

“We decided to appoint Maurizio Arrivabene because, at this historic moment in time for the scuderia and for Formula One, we need a person with a thorough understanding not just of Ferrari but also of the governance mechanisms and requirements of the sport,” said Ferrari chairman Sergio Marchionne.

“Maurizio has a unique wealth of knowledge: he has been extremely close to the scuderia for years and, as a member of the F1 Commission, is also keenly aware of the challenges we are facing. He has been a constant source of innovative ideas focused on revitalisation of Formula One. His managerial experience on a highly complex and closely regulated market is also of great importance, and will help him manage and motivate the team. I am delighted to have been able to secure his leadership for our racing activities.”

“We would also like to thank Marco Mattiacci for his service to Ferrari in the last 15 years and we wish him well in his future endeavours,” added Marchionne.

Now that he is gone PERMANENT. I have no doubts about reports of him mishandling Fernando Alonso's departure being the reason. Else he would have retained his original ppst at least.

Ferrari going into trouble much deeper. Why MM has been bought to ferrari..?? Now why they have replaced with another resource..?? Alonso left, Luca left, engineers leaving....still more changes to come. Wts happening with ferrari...?? Hmmm I'm confused with all these changes. Now it will take atleast 2-3yrs to regroup n be back to top. After 2 to 3years our driver line up will change again.

Sorry but that is too unfair to Mattiacci. He took a team in shambles that needed restructuring and new personnel. The best driver already wanted to leave even before MM set foot in Maranello. And now MM has lost the Ferrari North America job (which he didn't want to leave) and TP of the F1 team. Someone who has done so much for the brand should now be fired like he's the plague.

The only thing I've read on the reasons of his firing is that way he handled Alonso. But let's face it, if Alonso wanted to leave already in 2013 and he "gave the new and PU in 2014 a chance" how on earth can the management expect him to want to stay here? MM had his hands tied and he played the "no-one is bigger than Ferrari" card, what else could he do?

Or maybe he was fired because he was LdM's boy?

I doubt MM was fired because of the team's result. Either MM was planned as a temporary, or the new president have his own agenda.

Clearly if it was planned, then MM wouldn't end up with no position at all. But it seems MM is completely out of Ferrari, so I get the feeling that the new president decided that MM needs to leave the company due to internal politics, and it has nothing to do with what's going on in the F1 team.

That was quick... I only heard some strong rumours. So it is now confirmed.

Wow! Ferrari... didn't know not only we make fast cars, we make faster decisions.

2 TPs gone in a year. That must be a record.

Hope the new guy stays longer, else I cant watch where Ferrari will be heading in F1.

I would like to really ponder how much SM knows and cares about Ferrari in F1.

Sorry, didn't really think MM was the guy but running him over in less than a season is ridiculous. Hope MM gets compensated heavily.

Good luck Maurizio, you will need it.

    Hottest seat @ Maranello

Ferrari politics strikes. Mental. Team just seems to be unstable and in disarray, has anyone been keeping a running tally of everyone that's gone in the past year?!

So if the Marlboro guy is the new TP, is there any room for Brawn?? As far as I know Brawn always wanted to be the central point of reference. Really hope he returns to his old role as technical director though.

How bad our current season was, I was secretly hoping for a good 2015. But now all hope is gone. We are in a mess

Brawn isn't coming back. He doesn't like the relocation.

He has made his mark @ F1, nothing more to prove or challenge for.....

Hope the new guy knows a thing or two about racing...

But he didn't completely rule out a return to f1.

We are all just speculating.we have any elements to juge whatīs going on at SF.
Marchionne Is a great boss and his will to put ferrari on top again is evident.
I'm sure It will take time but we will bridge the gap.
