F1 team bosses vote Lewis Hamilton as best driver of 2014

Lewis Hamilton has topped AUTOSPORT's Formula 1 team principals' top 10 drivers poll for 2014.

But, unlike what happened on track this season, it was not his Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg who emerged as his closest challenger.

As part of the annual Formula 1 season review, AUTOSPORT has again exclusively polled every team principal for their top driver list of the year.

These lists are kept secret, so the bosses can be honest about their opinions, and only the overall results are collated together using the F1 scoring system of 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1.

The form that Hamilton displayed en route to capturing his second world championship this year was enough to deliver him a comfortable margin at the head of the rankings.

However, although Rosberg pushed Hamilton until the end of the season for the championship, the German only ended up fifth overall in the rankings.

Instead, it was Fernando Alonso who emerged as the team principals' second best driver, with his performance in the underwhelming Ferrari serving to impress.

Daniel Ricciardo's brilliant season for Red Bull, as he became the only non-Mercedes driver to win a race, secured him third place ahead of Williams' Valtteri Bottas.

Marussia's Jules Bianchi, who remains in a serious condition in hospital following his accident at the Japanese Grand Prix, was ranked eighth overall - having delivered his and his team's first world championship points at the Monaco Grand Prix.

Well, at least the 2015 drivers drive for Ferrari.

Had he had the F14T he would have finished behind Kimi. Rosberg is in the correct spot imo and i'm sure those two are as close as tweedledee and tweedledum when it comes to talent.

I believe Fernando won this award last year so that is not the formula to this little exercise.

Lewis Hamilton made some mistakes during qualifying even during races one or two mistakes. IMO Daniel Ricciardo is the best driver in 2014 season.

I agree with that list. Lewis had best car yes, but more pressure to deal with since fighting for the title & staying calm in last set of races. Fernando is Fernando, always brings is A game with whatever he drives. Dan showed he has grit & spine to fight & is a potential WDC.

Would have had the same top three put only up side down
even alonso might be the most competitive one since years Ricciardo showed really an amazing year, where he outperformed the most overrated driver in F1 out of the box without any excuses of "car not of his likings" or "new to the team" ... and that's what this ranking is about as the title says ... I will gladly watch 2015 if he can keep this up.
"If I was driving for Red Bull [from 2008] probably I would have more championships, but because they were dominating between 2010 and 2014 probably I would never have driven for Ferrari. I am very happy and very proud to drive for Ferrari, all my time there.

Nice to see Felipe and Jules recognised, for Felipe it would have been even better without his DNFs and for Jules, it just ended so horribly. #Forza Jules
