Maurizio Arrivabene – A success for the whole team

Maurizio Arrivabene: “This is no one-man win: it’s a success for the whole team, which has been working impeccably at all levels. Seb was just unbelievable today, and Kimi was able to put on a fantastic charge from the back. The whole team has showed a great deal of discipline, just like a Swiss watch-or should I say, an Italian one! Today, the whole team gave me great emotions and I wish to thank everybody, including the women and men back at the Maranello factory, for putting on an incredible effort over the last months, burning the midnight oil. Now we’ve got to be realistic, keep our feet on the ground and our concentration at a high level, because Mercedes is still a formidable contender. After the race our President Mr. Marchionne congratulated the whole team. He’s really one of us, he likes to stay away from the spotlight but still gives us a powerful contribution. And he’s a real Ferrari fan!”.

Sebastian Vettel - A dream that becomes true

Sebastian Vettel: “Grande gara, bella macchina! (A great race and a beautiful car). Sorry for starting to speak in Italian, but today is such a special day for me. I don’t really know what to say, I am speechless. It’s not only one childhood dream that becomes true, it seems to be many dreams together. It was amazing to look down from the podium and see the mechanics, the engineers, the whole team and listen to the German and Italian anthems. The atmosphere in the team has always been great, but it’s just getting better and better. For today, the important thing is for all of us to enjoy this moment together and celebrate. I did not swap teams that much in the past, so winning for a new team is always a relief. Since I joined Ferrari I felt incredibly welcome and together we have worked to improve things. The potential, as I always said, is huge, it’s good to see what a step forward we did over the winter. There were a lot of changes in the background (including one driver…) which never make things easy, but everyone saw the positives of that. It just doesn’t compare to last year, when the car was also good but I couldn’t get on top of it. With Ferrari I had a good feeling right from the start. This is a special day, it has been a while since both I and team won for the last time. I’d like to be in the same position at every race, but we must be realistic, Mercedes were a bit struggling today but they have a great package and our target is to make the gap smaller at every Grand Prix and make sure that we are the team right behind them”.

Kimi Raikkonen – We’ll get stronger

Kimi Raikkonen: “We had a pretty poor weekend in terms of things going wrong. I had a good speed but in qualify it didn’t go well and then today, after a poor start where I had too much wheelspin right off the line, I found myself fighting with all the other drivers and I had a puncture on the rear left tyre while battling Nasr at the last corner, which means I had to go one full lap before coming back to pits with no tyre. At that point my floor had got a little bit damaged, I had to do a full lap with no tyre and then, even if the safety car helped us, I had to start from way back behind. We did our best and the forth position was the maximum we could achieve. The win of Sebastian is a very good thing for him and for the whole team , knowing how difficult the last year has been; it’s a very good job what the team has done. We knew from winter testing that we have a good car, so it did not come as a total surprise, and probably the track with these high temperatures suited us. I don’t know how it will be in other circuits, but the car has been strong so far, not yet as we want but we have a good package, and we are getting stronger”.

What can I say about Sebastien Vettel.... WOW!!!

You could see it on his face... you could see him realizing that dream he had of emulating Michael Schumacher... that was something really special to watch...

My feet are firmly planted... I still think Mercedes will take both titles this year... but wow, just wow, what a great feeling it was watching Vettel cross the finish line...

    What a day!!

After this race, I hope we aren't the team which the FIA is targetting to bust wit the new fuel flow regs. I seriously hope we don't get affectedby that rule

As a result of watching Ferrari's accomplishments today, I honestly believe for the first time since I started following in 2010 that anything is possible this season. The car is only going to improve. What a fantastic machine and what phenomenal driving from Sebastian and Kimi! What's even more telling than Sebastian's victory is how Kimi got the car to fourth when practically everything that could have gone wrong did. Ladies and Gentleman, we have ourselves a championship here. I can't remember the last time I felt this good after a Grand Prix.

Today was great but I am going to keep my feet on the ground until after China, we will see there if we really have closed the gap.

i personally wouldn't go as far as saying we've CLOSED the gap. Are we faster then we were last year?? deffenately, but NOT as fast as teh Merc, NOT yet.

the merc's are still .5s a lap faster then we are, me thinks....but like you said, i too am keeping my feet firmly on the ground and wait a few races, and then we'll see where we are.

someone on here said that Ferrari will bring an engine update as well as more aero bits come Spain, so with those i'm sure we'll get closer to them, and with some luck maybe even be faster then they are....

but it's not like teh Merc's will be sleeping, im sure they'll bring updates as well; let's just hope that ours will work better
So the SF-24 has been a decent car. Lets hope that the totally redesigned from the ground up SF-25 contender will be a beast that will give us tifosi something to smile about.

I believe Ferrari downplay their chance and when I saw how upbeat James Allison was in interviews, I guess the pace is real in different kind of asphalt surfaces or weather. James Allison 2011, 2012, 2013 cars were kind on tires and Ferrari SF15-T is no different. At some stages during 2011, 2012 and 2013 Lotus struggled to get heat in their tires like Ferrari 2010, 2011 and 2013 (After changing the tires) cars but I haven's seen any struggle in this year Ferrari SF15-T for getting heat in the tires despite being kind with tires.

The reason why I am so optimistic is because the Ferrari clearly has great race pace. It should be able to compensate for inferior qualifying times. The fact that Ferrari was able to split the Mercedes on Saturday and win today showed how the team is on the right track. I still can't believe how Kimi was able to fight his way up to fourth.

What is encouraging is the fact that the team was repeatedly saying they want to challenge Mercedes later in the season. So they probably have something bigger in the development pipeline. Allison was talking about bringing some performance parts to next GP and he has been quite confident about in season developement recently. The team is in a good shape, has momentum and is much more hungry than Mercs. It all gives a good feeling for this season no matter the Chinese GP results.

It would have been interesting to see how close Vettel would have been to the Mercedes in terms of time, in Australia, had he not been caught up behind the Williams for a while.

I don't think it's so much that Ferrari will have problems heating their tyres on other circuits as much as it is that Malaysia is just not a good track for Mercedes... I fully expect them to come back strong in China... but Ferrari are clearly on the right track!!

Yes definitely, and for me too, because as long as I am team (Ferrari) fan in F1, in MotoGP I am drivers fan and the driver is VR46,so for me two huge emotional motorsports moments in just one day! Thank you all

Chairman Sergio Marchionne’s statement at the end of the Malaysia Grand Prix

Maranello, 29 March – “My heartfelt gratitude to Maurizio Arrivabene and the men and women of the Scuderia. What we have seen today is the result of incredibly hard work in the last few months, work that has been carried out in silence and with humility which are the real sign of a great team. Congratulations to Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen for a fantastic race. I am really happy for all the fans who have been waiting so long for a day like this. Forza Ferrari”.

Ferrari are kind on tires compare to Mercedes. In Malaysian GP despite tires were Medium and Hard because the track was hot Ferrari took the advantage of being kind on tires and result was better tire management than Mercedes. Tire choices in Chinese GP are Soft and Medium, so I expect it will suit Ferrari reasonably well and Mercedes could encounter another tire management problem compare to Ferrari.

Absolutely. I am not getting carried away with this win. Mercedes are still the team to beat and they are still in front of us. But, as we all saw today, we have closed the gap. That much, that Mercedes can feel our breath in their necks

I'd wondered about that. After being caught behind Massa, he pulled out a gap extremely quickly. Once enough was done, there was no way of getting another position. The Mercs hadn't been tested so there wasn't any point in trying to get second. They were too far in front, so Seb drove as fast as he had to to keep Massa behind. That was the impression I got after the race. Especially when I saw James Allison's face. He was grinning like a cheshire cat. He was smiling too much for 3rd considering the gap.

On a side note, apparently, Helmut Marko has won €400 as he had a bet on Seb winning the race.

But temperatures on China are not extreme where Ferrari seems to have an advantage. It's the definitely test for us to be sure that we have not only closed the gap with mercs but we are on par with them.

Stefa, i wouldn't go as far as saying CLOSED the gap to merc; we've REDUCED it is teh more sensible word i think

by saying we've CLOSED the gap, that means we'd have to BE ON PAR with teh mercs on either qualy pace or race pace...and as of NOW i don't think we are, UNLESS you or someone else can prove me wrong with data to back it up

i'm sure later in the season, FERRARI will more certainly CLOSE the gap to them, adn at that time every FERRARI FAN will jump up and down knowing that WE are the team to beat
So the SF-24 has been a decent car. Lets hope that the totally redesigned from the ground up SF-25 contender will be a beast that will give us tifosi something to smile about.

What can I say that hasn't been said already. Absolutely amazing to see a win for us so early, and for kimi to fight fromlast to fourth shows we have a fast car. Roll on China, this is the first time in a long time that I am looking forward to a race.

"That has made me fall in love with Ferrari even more today than ever." Fernando Alonso
