When Michael Schumacher became King of France

Michael Schumacher was aptly nicknamed 'the Kaiser' in Germany, but the F1 legend was also crowned King of France on this day in 2006.

Fourteen years ago today at Magny Cours, Schumacher achieved something no one had ever accomplished before him. The seven-time world champion became the first driver in F1 history to win the same Grand Prix eight times!

Schumacher's triumph was also his 88th career win, and he did it with Ferrari.

This weekend in Hungary, Lewis Hamilton will have an opportunity to equal Michael's outstanding milestone, having previously triumphed at the Hungaroring a record seven times.

And he will, the mission to literally erase Michael Schumacher from the record books will be completed this year.

An another note isn't it a shame that the cars we see running around now are so ugly compared the thing of beauty pictured above?

I'd like to see Magny Cours back on the calendar. Not always the greatest races, but it's majestic to see an F1 car lap around the track.

And to think back then we were already lamenting wings and other elements sprouting out of the body work. Little did we know...

The best one was the 2004 and the the four pit stops race Schumacher did a stint of qualifying laps to build a gap to Alonso it was epic.
