I think F1 teams did a pretty good job at diverting F1 fans attention from the floor to the sidepods. Now F1 media and most fans in general are treating the sidepods as holy grail of hidden performance.

But some us are more interested about the floor. The floor will generate more than 90% of the actual "workable" downforce and is the most important aero component. Tiny or bulky sidepods aren't going to play the dividend. Just like how the low rake concept didn't hinder Mercedes or how size zero concept didn't transform the Mclaren into a rocketship.

The team with the best powertrain and the best adaptation of ground effect will lead the packing order.

Don't the sidepods have a role in the crash structure?

.Don't think it's all that simple because we also have the beam wings back and they can make a huge difference in how the diffuser works. So no clear direction yet on who got it wrong or right. I just have a hunch that having some sidepods is more beneficial. It seals the floor, keeps the tire wake away and it can direct highly energized air to the beam wings. I'm taking a step out on a limb and thinking Merc may have to increase their sidepod areas. Plus all that cooling air that needs to be forced into the air scoop and let out causes drag.

    From Corriere.
The correlation of the data collected in Barcelona was very positive for the Ferrari F1-75! This confirms Ferrari's desire to focus on the car's full potential at the Bahrain tests. Perfect knowledge of the F1-75 is the goal.

I agree, there are too many parameters to manage and too many things to make work together. We could see completely different cars with a similar pace on a 1.5 min lap, even if it’s hard to believe just looking at them. It is true that Mercedes and RB must have more confidence in their simulation tools than Ferrari, because they have been adjusting them for longer. This allows them to go a little further in innovation without track testing. That’s why Ferrari still has to be careful, progress step by step, but it shouldn’t last too long now.
My feeling is that Mercerdes was bad in Barcelona, so let’s see where they are in Barhein. They can get back to the top in no time, but things could also not be so easy with the little time left before the first race

Creativity is not bounded by borders or nationalities.
Copying others is the antithesis of creativity.
Conjecture and criticism is where creativity comes from.

I have not seen any pictures of an actual Mercedes with no sidepods. All I have seen to date are drawings of how this could work.
Rest in Peace Leza, you were a true warrior...

like i said r design department is so far behind in the thought process so old school that needs to change quick, did we bring a new floor front suspention and raised front end.the amount of drag that the car has compared to the other is monumental.we definitly have a bulldozer now

I've seen at least 2 different floors on the Ferrari today and it seemed that the first one (one with Charles made his FL) was not making the car to porpoise as much.

I am amazed by thing how many experts are among us here that can make decisions just by the look at the picture, and yet they are not working for any F1 or other motor racing team?!?

Fan forums (football, F1 etc..) are like Twitter - everyone's an expert!

Apparently the Merc design doesn't scare Ferrari !! They had evaluated Merc type sidepod and found that inferior to the larger sidepod concept. Let's see at the end of season if there is any convergence in design.

Ferrari successfully tests new floor which allows for softer suspension set-ups

The zero size sidepods imply something else.
Extreme cooling. The worrying thing is not the design of the sidepods, or their size, but their lack of cooling capacity.
And since the engine must be cooled somehow, probably the rumours about the W13 "magic coolant" are true.
So, the question is again how good our engine is?

    Let's see
