    Some new developments as reported on http://www.f1analisitecnica.com/2012....html?spref=tw

    Using google translate again:

    Ferrari are sure that they understand and solve the problems that had undermined the latest updates introduced by aerodynamic Silverstone GP to Hungary.
    The new aerodynamic parts designed specifically for Spa were tested, both in the wind tunnel in Maranello in the Cologne owned by Toyota, and the results were excellent.
    For the race this weekend, the Ferrari will bring the following changes:

    Front wing, which reduces the drag of the car and ensures excellent handling of the car;
    DRS rear wing with a new concept to increase the top speed of the car
    Discharges slightly modified to increase the effect of downforce on the rear axle;
    new fund and diffuser
    changes to the mapping of the engine to increase the maximum power

    Sounds great and promising. Will it be enough...? Other teams were not seating past 5 weeks and enjoying summer vacation weeks not working and thinking on how to upgrade their cars. We'll see it this weekend how F2012 updates will work. Not to ruin good vibe and fun, but Ferrari were bringing new wings since Silverstone and they didn't worked. Hopefully they solved those problems, as it is said in post above...

    I don't think the juicy stuff will be revealed in the next two races due to the nature of the circuits. We will see plenty circuit specific optimisations though.

    Singapore is the big one.

    Low downforce package:
    New front wing with smaller flaps and no upper cascades at endplates

    New smaller rear wing with curved main plane and only 2 slots in the endplates

    EDIT: And finally someone is copying bits from F2012

    Its joined to the vertical turning vane, so this is something new. Doesn't look like there's any room for the turning vane on the left to move further downwards though. Looks like its already attached to the floor.

    It looks like an evolution of Sauber's concept. Hope it won't work as expected. :twisted

    I put this in this thread as it about development...
    Tombazis: "So I changed the Ferrari and saved the job"
    The engineer F2012:
    "we admitted the problem "30/08/2012

    A Spaniard on a machine designed by an Italian greek are leading the championship. So the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso celebrated the victory in Germany, a rematch of the sports most indebted countries in the Mediterranean. Nicholas Tombazis, Athenian, the less famous of the club, is the engineer who designs the Reds. "We have recovered one of the worst beginning of my career," he explains in a break from work at Maranello. Relief? Satisfaction? "For now, all right, but to bring home the World Cup we have to grow again." Optimistic for Sunday in Belgium? "We have a package of new specifications for the circuit of Spa, but also will test a few pieces for the following races." Alonso said: "In terms of points we did the maximum level of performance we're missing something." "Fernando does not send messages through the press. He's a team in bad times has always been supportive. It is precise and sensitive as telemetry and helps us to find solutions. He and Schumacher are the best I've worked with. " Three years without winning: as that depends on the crisis? "Just a minute: We went bad compared to the rod that we place. Last year we finished in third position: that they should tell the fourth down?. " Ferrari usually has other objectives. "It's true. It is a complex story: at the end of the 90's was dominated by the McLaren. Then we analyzed the causes of defeat and changed our way of working, investing in a new wind tunnel. So we have come to dominate. " Then what happened? "In these cases it is easy to fall into a trap: we become unwilling to change, not very innovative. Other teams, like Red Bull and McLaren have taken advantage of. With the new regulations, we realized that it is not at the top, and we wondered how to get competitive in the next five years. " After winter testing was afraid of losing his job? "company has the right to ask his chief designer because wins and wonder if it is the right person for that role. " What was the turning point? "The first step was to recognize errors. As in the case of alcoholics, we start from admitting the problem. " next step? "is a plan that in three months we did make a big step forward. The deadline was the Grand Prix in Barcelona. In the first 4 races we had to bite the bullet. " What have you changed? "Of everything: front wing and rear end car, bodywork and aerodynamic, made of the brakes. Not discharges: the new ones, which malfunctioned, we have redesigned the Grand Prix of Canada. " He believed in comeback? "Well, it's not like in the 800 of athletics where one save in the first round. I thought it was a recoverable situation, but between believing and be sure there is a difference. " What is the best car that designed it? "Those who won: F2007 and F2008." Better to have strict rules or freedom of action ? "Better to have clear rules. Freedom stimulates the imagination, but at this time it is important to contain costs. " It is true the cost of F1 increase because of the engineers? "My job is to design a winning car with the budget and available materials." There too much aerodynamics in F1? "From 2014 the engine will retrieve importance. As it is right. "

    That's not the only thing they copied from us, checkout the side of the floor where they have turned up the edges. As far as I know we were the first to use this many seasons ago. Seems a lot of copying by McLaren lately, when will they copy the front wheel fairing?

    We couldn't test much because it was raining for both FP 1 and 2. No any lap times to tell anything

    Alonso have a lower drag rear wing and Massa have a higher downforce rear wing today, they both did a run with aero paint on them during FP2. But not sure how much they can study from that test, we can hardly see the paint due to the rain water.

    Interesting info about engine use by Mattia Binotto - Head of Engine and KERS Operations:

    Looking at the current situation we have so far used four engines, five for our competitors, which we believe can in some way be an advantage at the end of the season. Fitting new engines in Belgium and Monza means that everybody else will be at seven engines already used and then you need in some way to manage the end of the season. Having a brand new engine compared to an engine having already done one race, it’s some horsepower, not a lot, but looking at the power effect it can up to one tenth per lap in qualifying. Knowing that the grid is very short, everything is quite important at the moment.

    Super DRS?-
    Si sta spargendo la voce nel paddock di Spa che la Ferrari abbia portato per questo Gp in terra belga, una sua versione di F-Duct all'ala posteriore per incrementare la velocitā massima che č sempre stato un punto debolo sulla F2012. Se fosse confermata tale voce, la Ferrari collauderā la sua versione di super DRS durante le libere per essere poi installato in vettura dalla prossima gara di Monza. Trovo quasi impossibile che si riesca giā a renderlo efficace ed efficiente fin da subito solo con dei test in galleria del vento e al CFD. A meno che la Ferrari non l'abbia giā collaudato e testato durante il test in rettilineo effettuato da Marc Genč subito dopo il Gp di Valencia.

    Siamo in attesa di vedere alcune foto della F2012 nel paddock di Spa per capire se la voce č veritiera.

    Ferrari has new version of DRS, no doubt about it, it should be more efficient in reducing the drag. Fry or Tombazis talked about it earlier. But I doubt, it has something to do with F-duct.

    Moving on, here is nice detail of diffuser (right click and open picture in new window for full size).
    There you can see that the flap around diffuser is sloted.
    Also the wing endplates now incorporat some sort of adjustments. Maybe they have now better options to set up the angle of attack of the main plain and flap giving them more setup options?
