Charles' best circuit, downforce is more important than drag and presumably 21°C air temps and dry. Should be a good weekend. Then again it's Ferrari we're talking about so who knows?

29th June 2022, 12:47
The weather forecasts I've been following show a chance of showers and cool temps and windy for the whole weekend, not ideal for one of our best chances of a win after an unfortunate few races for Charles. I don't trust Merc, though, and with two Brits driving and Wolff's insistence that they are still not competitive, well we'll see.:roll

So Mercedes (James Allison) reckon they can beat Ferrari on merit at Silverstone, funny how they knew about the new technical directive for the double-stay floor before anyone else, I sincerely hope we can prove that they can't. They have reliability on their side, though, but we are due some good fortune for a change.:roll

Under the new changes in the regulations, the way I understand them, we can now make changes in the engines (till we make the permanent fix) with "temporary" components which AFAIK this is a new one and I am not sure if this brings any penalty to the driver any more.
This seems to me like a very good thing for Ferrari.
Teams will now be permitted to undertake temporary changes to their power units in order to avoid adding new elements and risking grid penalties.
But teams will also be allowed to swap an engine or elements in parc fermé with new components or a unit of a newer specification between qualifying and the race without incurring a pitlane start.https://f1i.com/news/446167-fia-amends-f1s-2022-sporting-and-technical-rules.html

I was banned as a troll for my comments...now...when season is a copy of 2017 and 2018..as the upgrade department is sleeping for one more year....im really disappointed but i laugh at all these experts and fans etc etc...im disappointed i was right.
We need much more apart from a great basic car...we need mental strength and the right people...not clowns anymore.
I hope one day Ferrari will overcome this situation... probably not this year...
I'm starting to get the feeling that there may not be a significant amount of budget dedicated to upgrades. Ferrari may have spent a large amount on getting the base car well designed and then were left with room for track specific adjustments and minor upgrades...

Have you seeing us falling behind, performance wise???? Because this is what the upgrades do. Have RedBull upgrade their car to make it faster then ours?? Because I see that in most races we where faster them them. And even in Canada(RedBulls we track) we where equal/a little bit faster. So why moaning about upgrades?? Foe esthetic reasons????
To talk about teams / strategy mistakes and bad reliability that cont a huge amount of points, then ok I agree.
But on pure performance we have nothing less then RedBull!!!!!

Baku was a disaster, but Ferrari have had the same number of mechanical DNF's as Red Bull.
Biggest issue is lack of straight line compared to Red Bull. Made it impossible for Leclerc to challenge in Imola and Miami. Baku it looked like maybe the issue had been solved, but in the race it looked like Red Bull's straight line was going to eat Ferrari alive again, even before the engine and gearbox went boom. Canada was the same story. Sainz was close, but just not enough pace on the longest straights.

You are coming across as self entitled though. Like sure if someone slams it into the wall or the team completely mess up on the wall or in the pits then fair enough, in that instance people can be frustrated but it's illogical to get wound up when a ball hasn't even been kicked (to use a football phrase!). Treat every weekend as a new one because that's what it is, we have potential and we saw it in Barcelona and Monaco but we have to bring it all together in a fault free weekend. You can't write the team off every race weekend just because of what came before. Especially when there is potential In the car.

Careful with the finger-pointing because you may come across as patronizing.
It would be nice if some of the Pollyannas on this board would tone down their incessant need to berate those who may be frustrated with the team.
I approach every single F1 weekend with as much optimism rearding Ferrari as possible, as I've done since I became a tifoso in 1977.
But there is no denying that it is very frustrating to support a team that 'drops the ball' with almost religious regularity and has done so for some years now. Worse for me is the relentless lack of killer instinct which has also become a hallmark of the Ferrari F1 culture. It's bewildering how this 'we-keep-trying-slowly-gets-there' namby-pamby nonsense culture has been allowed to take hold at Ferrari. Importantly, it's a mindset that is completely out of place in a sport as ruthless and competitive as F1.

any prediction of weather for tomorrow and sunday?
Tifoso Svedese
1st July 2022, 18:17
There's a diagonal rain system of modest showers between Exeter and Lincoln with possible extensions to Plymouth and Hull that will go west of the circuit until most of it has cleared out in the afternoon. This weather system will pass over Northamptonshire on its way to obsolescence. So drizzle looks probable, but then again in Northern Europe these kind of showers are often split up in multiple portions with gaps in between due to lower convection than in subtropical climates.
Rain is less likely but possible as drizzle on Sunday. It doesn't look like a sustained rain front is passing over England that day but it's much more split up and lighter amounts if happening.

The formula is easy to get Charles back in the game, firstly no engine issues for either driver, secondly any one else other than max to win the race and finally Charles must finish in front of max no if and no buts.Sainz looking strong so a 1 and 2 in any order would be perfect with merc filling in the podium position again 3rd and 4th would be the icing on the cake we can live in hope, we are due for our share of good fortune.

#AMus reports that the Mercedes engineers predict a Ferrari front-row. In the longrun it looks close between Ferrari, RB & Mercedes. Ferrari looked consistent, Mercedes struggles in S1, while Red Bull in S3. RB are the fastest on the straights but Ferrari is just 4 km/h behind.
Mercedes engineers: "If we take the fuel level & the power mode into account, Ferrari is half a second faster than us [one lap]. But Lewis on the mediums and George on the hard tyres are on a par with Ferrari in the longrun."
Mercedes engineer say that the softs are not a race tyre. Pirelli has pumped them up to record levels of 26 PSI at the front & 23 PSI at the rear. Teams fear punctures & prefer to choose the two harder compounds for safety reasons.

Our car should be the best on this track and the rain can only give more chance to the other teams, we don’t need it.
Charles couldn’t make his fast lap with new tires yesterday, due to a wrong message on his steering wheel, and he encountered various problems. It was better for Carlos.
Charles said yesterday that he was expecting a wet quali so we’ll have to do well to secure the first row

Silverstone in qualifying trim and in race trim are like two different sports. Just watch Leclerc battering Bottas in race trim last year and staying with the leaders even in 2020. Something tells me Ferrari have gone for a high-downforce set up whereas Red Bull are just sending it and going for a front row lockout. The times Leclerc set on the mediums yesterday in early FP2 were unbelieveable and that's the race tyre for tomorrow.
Having said that, for this to work P2 is a must this afternoon. If we're genuinely this slow and facing being beaten by Hamilton this weekend, no words could describe the contempt I'd feel for the development team of this car :-E This aside, Silverstone really is a Sunday's game. We'll see what happens I guess.

If we dont win this weekend its better to abandon any upgrades and focus on 2023 car.

Let's see in just over an hour on raw pace, obviously race pace tomorrow as well. Interesting stat came up in P3 was Leclerc lost 0.44 on fastest lap to Verstappen just on the straights which was the entire gap. Someone somewhere else posted that Max turned engine up from FP2 to fp3 but Ferrari have not. If Ferrari are still 0.4 down in quali then that theory is BS but could be the case especially with Ferrari needing to hold back for precaution on engine modes in practices after terrible race failures.

To all those who consider me and some other users as trolls or other team supporters,i would like to say that we all support the same team.
Everyone express his support on his way .You dont have to be rude with us...if you dont like us,just dont reply on us,or ignore us.
There is no point in fighting each other after a good result .

Max would have been on pole, if Lec did not spun and triggerd yellow flags. It's good to have a little bit of perspective, don't be blind and stupid it's not good for you darling
Well ,you are not wrong. We have some decent pace ,but Max looked about 0,3 faster. His S1 and S3 was so fast.

Track evolution was key. Sainz timed it perfectly. If Leclerc did'nt spin. it's highly possible Max would have gotten pole. So no truth then in watching the video then....got it.

I haven't ever talked big about other drivers / teams ,but today Ves looked the fastest I every single lap. Yes Carlos took pole and I'm pretty happy about it but if it wast for Lec to spun I front of him (and ruined Max lap ) ,pro8he would be on pole . I'm talking about pure pace ..
If it was the opposite, all here would say that we where the fastest and we lost pole . But it looked closer to him under conditions like this.

Why would this so called Mr. Untouchable need perfect track condition for pole? :rotfl
God, you're so upset of Charles spinning which supposedly denied your Idol the pole position. :lol

Unfortunately this is the truth.
Times after sector 2 on the last Q3 laps (before Charles’ spin):
VER 72.596
Carlos 72.707 (+0.111)
Charles 73.134 (+0.538)
Max then found yellow flags at the start of his sector 3 and lifted.

You're obviously acting childess. I never said anything your inferencing and I'm not upset at Leclerc for spinning . You have the sector times of Max with the Leclerc spin......and you can see Max lifted in one of those sectors......OH WAIT......you posted it on a previous post. :roll

Guys calm down.
We needed luck & we got it … else it was looking like Max on pole quite comfortable.
Good job by Sainz & Leclerc in these tricky conditions.
Max was lucky oh boy…. He spun & was able to put it on track.
Correcting my post: Max S2 was down by some margin. Not sure whether he could have taken the pole.

Yeah...proclaiming someone as "untouchable" isn't childish at all. Even when the end result proves it otherwise. :lol
Shoulda/Woulda/Coulda is a nice thing. Guess what, if had it not been for the 2 engine failures and dumb pit call, Charles would've won Spain, Monaco and Baku easily and wouldn't have to take a PU penalty in Canada. We can all play that game but the reality will stay the same.

Do you honestly think people are "hateful" at the Scuderia here on this forum.......again these are your presumptions.
People on this forum get frustrated or criticize the Scuderia when they foul up.....just like you on some of your posts when the Scuderia fouls up. It's their freedom of speech......but we all love Ferrari....it's just that people expectations are posted in different ways....and in those ways you and only you may not like it...but these people are venting their frustrations on this forum......like it or not.

I wonder what will happen tomorrow......what will Ferrari do if Max overtakes Sainz and Sainz can't keep up with him......will they leave Charles behind Carlos or will they use teamorders? Can be an important moment for all...Leclerc, Sainz and the team.

I think let Charles pass is the right desicion.
We ve seen everything from this team in the past...i wouldnt be surprised if they destroy Charles race.Lets hope they wont.
I know its Carlos first pole and first real chance for a win,but if he cant stay with Max,team has to help the driver who has a shot for the tittle.

Very happy for Carlos and with Charles starting P3, we are in with a chance of a decent result. Reliability is the worry and race pace against RB questionable, but in those quali conditions, anything could have happened. Good job by both drivers and hoping for a dry race.

We agree. I think that if Ferrari still wants Charles to have a shot at the title, the decision cab only be letting Charles pass. And the scenario is quite realistic. If I was Binotto, I would sit down with both drivers this evening and discuss it. Carlos won't be happy at all with it, but he will understand. That is way better than just order him during the race.
