(Motor-Total.com) - The former Benetton and Ferrari chief designer Rory Byrne, a long time as Michael Schumacher's "counterpart" to Adrian Newey traded, was apparently entrusted with a new task. Ferrari while this actually still wanted to keep secret, but a technical director of Formula 1 teams, Aldo Costa, the news slipped out in Sepang.

On the issue of 'Motor-Total.com' whether and how Byrne was still involved in Grand Prix racing, Costa said last weekend: ". Rory is working on the new super sports car from Ferrari this is his main task." The PR department of Ferrari it would not just break out into singing storms, finally was actually not planned to go with the news already to the public.

Commuting between South Africa and Italy

Details of the new Ferrari-project, whose existence was previously not known to be for the time being remain a closely guarded secret. But Byrne is likely to be charged even more so, because at a chance meeting with a 'motor-Total.com' staff in November at the airport in Frankfurt am Main, the South Africans indicated before his flight to Johannesburg, that he is currently back in more often Italy is - professional.

Byrne was wearing a jacket with the possibility of the Ferrari emblem on the chest, which was up to the Costa-statement, however, no indication of a new project, after all, he continues to work as a consultant for Formula 1 team boss Stefano Domenicali. As such, it is not directly on the Ferrari payroll, but is seen as an external employee. This is for the settlement of the resource restriction Agreement (RRA) is important.

Byrne also works under his former boss Jean Todt as a consultant to the FIA and puts its know-how for the design of the Regulations of 2013. His last major project on FIA level was overtaking the working group that developed among other things, the adjustable front wing, the 2009 and 2010 in Formula 1 was in use. Byrne was working with Paddy Lowe of McLaren and Renault's Pat Symonds together.

Duel with the eternal rivals beckons

If Ferrari decides to run with the new super sports car racing, then it could be implemented at another level, a meeting with the eternal rivals McLaren. The British do have that is led by former Formula 1 team boss Ron Dennis with the MP4-12 also brought a super sports cars on the market that you win in the foreseeable future Le Mans GT and celebrate successes.

In Woking we dream in any case for months by the GT-duel with Ferrari. Team CEO Martin Whitmarsh revealed in March that it will be very pleased: "I went to Ferrari and said that we should compete against each other," he said then. "Ferrari was skeptical of GT3, GT2 and GT1, but I said to them: You decide on the rules, we compete against you"

I hope he satys as consultant for 2013, as he helped design the regs, and that may help us find trhe loopholes in them

That's interesting. I think this new super sports car they're talking about could be the replacement of the Enzo (which is due to be launched next year if I remember correctly).

    The future is RED

Doubt he would come back to F1. He delayed his retirement to help the F1 team; he doesn't need that kind of pressure anymore.

the new Mclaren mp4-12c has been homolgated to run in the GTE class in LMS. They will be entering in 2012 full season (if i remember right) At moment CRS (traitors, they used to run 430s) are helping with the development of the car. So next year, we will have 458s, BMWs, Vettes, Mclaren, Porsches all racing each other at Le Mans. In the LMS will be be between 458s, Porsches Mclaren. It will be some good racing. Mclaren will be beaten by us and Porsches
