I think it's just an optical ilusion.
Two parts are one in front of the other and not in the right position regarding each other.
I beleive what seems to be a little wing is just the begining of the engine cover.
Edit: a little late!

So the battle begins... Good luck to our boys...![]()
There seems to be a slot in the upper small winglet connected to the endplate. Was that there before or is it just reflection?
Edit: nevermind, its just reflection. HI RES

Looks like McLaren might be copying Ferrari's sidpods, maybe?

yup...the profile view definitely looks like it...
Looks more like a combination of Ferrari sidepod with Red Bull idea of going more aggressive on the exhaust gas than Ferrari, leaving a smaller channel for the sidepod flow.
Ferrari certainly leave more room for sidepod flow, while RB sacrifices that for exhaust flow. McLaren looks to be heading closer to Red Bull path.

Less worried now. Thanks Fer for the pictures, but McLaren have just copied Ferraris rear end and sidepods Fter the Montreal update with a winglet, from the looks of things.
