    Vettel better than Alonso???????????????????

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/19487080

I thought i would eat my fingers if BBC voted Vettel better than Alonso and here they have done it

In the whole article the authour seems to be debating with himself if Vettel should really be at #8 and yet he ranks him there

I had the opportunity to attend a discussion with Sr. Jackie Stewart at Monza on Saturday, during which he said that, in his view, Alonso is, currently, F1's most complete driver.

Vettel is good, but not as good.

I think the fact that the author almost always mentions that Vettel had the quickest or one of the quickest cars kind of derails his conclusions. Vettel is pretty good no doubt, but even looking at this year, he's been dominanant when the car has been dominant and he's been about average when the car is average. Seems that whenever red Bull get 'clever' Vettel is at the top.

I agree. Alonso and lewis are way ahead of anyone else out there. The next best would be kimi and vettel really. But we have yet to see Vettel take a dog of a car anywhere serious. So its still unproven territory.

Kimi has indeed been a surprise. my last memory of Kimi was his last season with us. He was moping around, lack luster in his performance and was pretty glad to see him leave. But they way he has come back is amazing. His drives are comparable to the best and lets face it, the lotus is just as fast and unpredictable (wrt tyres) as our car. So being in 3rd position without a win is quite an achievement. Vettel may be faster, but kimi is a better driver overall.

Vettel might be quick when the car is working well for him, but i think races like Sepang, Hockenheim and Monza have shown that his racecraft is still not top notch. In particular, his awareness of where his car is relative to other drivers still needs working on (this was also evident in previous years).

I think his attitude could do with some working on too. When he wins he's all smiles and jokes, but when he loses he throws his toys out of the pram and blames everyone but himself.

Actually, I'd go with top of the rank being Alonso, and fighting for the second being Kimi and Lewis and giving the equipment, Kimi being slightly in front.

Let's face it, Lotus is not McLaren.

Oh yes. The attitude as well. He acts a bit like lewis (2010) now.

You might want to back that up because Vettel isn't proving that point.

Its like walking up to someone and telling them the Earth is flat. You've got to back those statement up, otherwise you can't expect anyone to take you seriously.

    Fair enough

In my opinion Vettel is a better package. He works hard with his team, he understands F1, he speaks much better English, the Language supposed to be used in F1. He deals better with the media. He races with out whining up.
I think Vettel is better then Alonso. Saying that, does not mean that Alonso is not ranking high as I do see the talent in him. I also complimented on his race in Italy. I also think he is better then Massa, even when Massa is one of my favorite drivers.
I dont really need to be respected here, it a forum and I speak my mind. Think that's what a forum is about.

Oh dear, he speaks better English? lol How do you feel about all those workers at Ferrari who only speak Italian? How on earth is English the language of F1?

So funny. Alonso does not understand F1? Alonso does not work hard with his team? Alonso deals with the media badly? Vettel does not whinge? did you hear him in Hungary, did you read him calling backmarkers idiots?

So of all your points none of them actually make any sense at all.

I feel fine with them, as I feel fine with people speaking russian, Spanish or any other language, even if they build Ferrari's.

See that's a interesting question. I honestly can't explain that. Perhaps he had a better teacher ?

Vettels english is definitely not better than Fernando's, only that his accent is german not spanish- maybe it sounds better to some people. The only german driver who speaks really good english is Hulkenberg. He even has a british accent, maybe because he is driving for Williams

Even if he does speak better English, how does that make him a better package. Was Coulthard a better package than Schumi?
And have you forgotten the not so cool media relationship between Webber and Vettel? And in addition to the comment over Karthekeyan, his comment at Hamilton for unlapping himself?

So two of your arguments have been countered. The third one about working hard with the team, I don't think any body here has the degree of information required to guess whether Alonso or Vettel are better at it.

One of Vettel's ex girlfriends is English, so that's why he speaks English. He also likes English humour.

But, we're judging them as F1 drivers and not as linguists, so i don't see the relevance of it.
