Rule nr 1: at the end of every season the FIA and the teams should determine which rule has proven to be useless that year. That rule will then be removed from the book. Not changed or replaced, but removed.
After a few years the rulebook will then be reduced to one page, containing only short and clear rules that have proven to be useful.

Stretching the boundaries of this thread a bit I suppose, but I would recommend this Richard Williams article for its attack on a whole lot of hair-brained, profit-motivated 'rules' that degrade this sport that we all love and support.
@ 64 Fratelliferrari: I have no problem whatsoever with drivers and their race engineers enjoying an amicable relationship, espcially when it ensures the well-being of the driver, mentally or physically. Danger is an integral part of F1 and I imagine most drivers are only too happy know that the person speaking to them has their best interests at heart as another human being, not just the executor of team orders. And that includes the Felipe /Rob partnership.
I'd just like to see a return to drivers using their instinctive and acquired skills and judgement as racing drivers, which may involve mistakes as well as success. That's what makes it a sport not a business enterprise.
Anyway, read Richard Williams who puts it much more clearly that I can.

The top 20 moments in sports of 2013, forget where I read it, 1 of the F1 sites I think..
not 1 of the top 20 was Formula 1. Goes to show that the mashing of rules the last few years
havent worked quite as expected.
Truth be told, the 2013 season has been 1 of the most boring I can remember, and I dont say that
because of the RB dominance. Most teams have a period of dominance.
I cant remember a time that I actually didnt care if I missed watching a race.
The new designs will be interesting, new engines, but we still have to race on Pirelli rubber.
And tell me where it will be interesting to watch them race when they start fuel conservation?
Ive been an F1 fan for years, and there have been periods that I didnt care for, but the periods I liked
far outweighed them. Now, Im not so sure.
Can you remember when Bernie said medals would be given to the winner of a race, and who ever won the most races wins the WDC

Agreed Hornet, and as the Guardian article referred to by Alessandra points out, our sport is being diluted by all these silly tweaks to rules and regulations, where the actual racing is secondary to the commercial demands of a small group of wheeler-dealers. Back to basics is what is needed.
What do you guys think of the pole trophy?! Another stupid rule added. Also, what if, we had 3 cars per team? I think that'd cool!
I agree with Stefa let's go back to the rules of 1980's & 1990's.:xmasrolleyes:
I am fed up with KERS, DRS, Pirelli's choice of tyres, rules & more rules.................
Come on FIA leave F! alone.![]()

Fortunately it's not a rule, just a small "add-on" so to speak, and it doesn't really affect F1 in a major way, unlike the crazy double points rule.
Speaking of which, I'm still hoping that the people in the FIA who came up with this "double points" idea will perhaps finally come to their senses and do the right thing by revoking this ridiculous rule before the 2014 season starts. I know it's a long shot but one can only hope.![]()
KEEP CALM AND LOVE FERRARI
The One New rule which I would like to have in formula one is to "to use the DRS once or twice in the whole race", as I feel overtaking another driver should be done on the ability of the driver and not with an aid. The use of DRS makes the race look easy.
Perhaps an 'F1 constitution' is needed where existing and future rules can be stricken should they involve F1 pandering to TV audiences, 'fans' and suppliers.
Podium interviews are one of the most vacuous innovations I've seen in a long time. One lap qualifying was an unmitigated disaster. Artificial overtaking using DRS is no better. Tyre rules have been farcical, allowing Pirelli to make the spectacle all about themselves. And double points? All recent rules have in my view been disastrous for the integrity of F1 and there has to be some mechanism to prevent such stupidity.
Bridgestone back, that should be permanent rule.

That's my point, Hornet, with the aero providing so much of the problem here, it's just another technical aspect which doesn't allow proper wheel-to-wheel racing. I realise F1 is supposed to be the pinnacle of motor-racing but the technical side has overtaken the essence of the sport. No easy fix, unfortunately!
I am not saying to eliminate DRS overtaking but to limit its use.To be used when it is abolutely important, not on every lap.
