I just saw a picture of Vettel's tires and it looked like someone plowed through them. Like they scraped rubber of them and left a couple of groves. Terrible.

They wanted the pole position so bad thinking that the old formula still works - put it on pole, start and distance yourself by 2 sec, drive off into the distance, win.

The tires are going to byte them hard.

Felipe is not on Kimi's level....if you can chose to deliberately excluse 2007 from these discussions,i can do the same with 2008...even Alonso was outpaced by Trulli for much of 2004....so is he a worse driver than Trulli??? You cant embrace such narrow views....as for 2009.they both suffered a lot of misfortune and tactical blunders committed by ferrari....Kimi outqualified him that year,btw....

Why don't we all move away from the Felipe bash-a-thon and discuss the upcoming race instead.

Don't play dumb with me. I'm better at it than you are.

Man I just get on here to read about qualifying and all I get is some idiots going on about Massa having to let Alonso throught. You guys make me sick. Can you please take this discussion to another thread or a different forum. I really just want to read about qualifying and all you arm-chair team principles can go back to your soap operas.
    This is annoying.

If FA's DRS is bad can it be fixed before the race?

Don't know what the problem is. I read somewhere that it could be a problem with the ECU, and these are the units for 2014, so we're doing beta-testing . I think the telemetry problems from yesterday were also because of the ECU.

Another winter testing hopeful turn autumn disappointment for the Reds. 1 sec off the pace is too much.

I couldn't care less which driver wins, as long as it's a Ferrari first over the finish line I'm happy .... let's move on.

I read over on AutoSport that Alonso is stuck with the DRS problem if any and it cannot be fixed..

Therefore he better let Felipe take this one. After that since Felipe will have the points lead Alonso will have to let him through for the remainder of the season..

    This is Ferrari over here.

Yeah, I was right about the Mercedes being hard on its tires. The Force India seems to be in a similar situation. Could it be the engine?

Does anybody know what could cause the darker strip on the rear tires to be more diffuse on Vettel's car than on Webber's? Softer tires (lower pressure, I mean)? Driving style? Downforce?

How exactly has the first qual thread of the season turned into a Fernando is better than Felipe thread...?

Enough of this already...! If you really can't be a tad more supportive to both drivers before a single race lap has been run and you have to behave in this endlessly tedious negative fashion (towards either driver) go and do it in another thread, or better than that, do it somewhere else...

    exactly.
I've expected to be behind but not a second. That's way too much. Would mean we've lost in the winter instead gettin' better (compared to last race).
Second on grid is even a half of a second behind. Please not a borring year again .....

As both drivers have nearly the same time it seems that this is the limit of the car.
And this fact seems to be a punch with the fist into the face. The sequence of the drivers then is marginal and without relevance.

Sweet dreams are over ... shouldn't have watched the quali ... mei oooo mei ...

It may be one second here - although it would have been less for Fernando without his DRS issue - but as soon as we get to warmer tracks we might see we're only .5 sec behind. This is now a development race to add downforce. There are no fundamental issues with the car, quite the opposite.

We're behind but we can do it.

    Felipe Massa (4th, Q3 - 1m 28.490s)
“Given the difficult conditions we encountered yesterday in the first part of qualifying and then again this morning, I’m reasonably pleased with this fourth place. In such changeable conditions, the slightest inconvenient could see you not make it through the various stages of qualifying. Now we can expect a long and difficult race where the strategy will play – like always - a key factor. Anyway, starting from a good position is a positive and encouraging sign for the start of this championship”.

    Fernando Alonso (5th, Q3 - 1m 28.493s)
“I am very pleased with this result, because if our aim for the year is to reduce the gap to our competitors and start from better positions than we have done in the past two seasons, we can claim to have managed it. After winter testing, it was difficult to draw any conclusions and that was also the case today, with a delayed qualifying and very changeable weather conditions. Once again, Red Bull demonstrated its superiority, but while it’s true that we fought with them right down to the last race, for the past two seasons, I am sure that once again this year we will be there to mix it with them, if we do everything perfectly without making mistakes. I think that starting from fifth, a podium finish is a realistic option.”

never mentioned about DRS issue - though it looks fishy Alonso's S3 in last laps is about two-tenths slower than Massa
