Seb praises team effort for today’s pole position

Sebastian Vettel: “Of course there are no points given today, but for the team, for all of us, this is a fantastic result! We had been waiting for so long for this pole to arrive, not just the team, but myself too. Perhaps I could have aborted the last attempt, but there was no much point in doing so, because I did not know what the others were doing and I felt fantastic, so I pushed to the end. Now I’m looking forward to the race tomorrow, knowing that it will be very difficult and challenging to master all the conditions that you experience in a race. But we are starting from the perfect spot. I wouldn’t mind to pull away at the start, but it’s going to be a very long race. There are so many small decisions you have to take, and it’s easy to focus on the big result and neglect the small details… So we’ll have to focus on tomorrow, because so many things can happen on the way to the chequered flag, with the safety car and so on, as we’ve seen so often in the past. Hopefully we can have the same speed tomorrow, and then it could be a very good day”.

    Kimi pleased despite unexpected difficulties

Kimi Raikkonen: “I’m happy to finish third considering the difficult day I’ve had compared to yesterday. I have been struggling all day with the set up of my car, finding the grip and the balance. It was difficult to make the car work as I wanted. We always try to do our best in a race weekend and here it seems to work. Some places seem to favor one team and some others other teams, this time we have been having a pretty ok weekend so far. Our aim is to improve for the race, tomorrow we’ll see how strong our opponents are, we’ll try to do our best and hopefully have a stronger race as a team.”

Rosberg: I watched Vettel’s onboard [pole lap] & shouted out ‘what the hell?!’. It seems like he's on a different planet in some corners

When I read that quote from Rosberg, I was reminded of this: "Sebastian misses four apexes on a single lap and still goes quickest. He goes off and he still goes quickest. And I think ‘Holy crap, I couldn’t do that lap even if I was on the limit’. His car is just that far ahead of everyone else’s. They made such a big step for some reason." - Lewis Hamilton, 2012

the best part about it is watching the collective total of Merc fans jaws hit the floor. Oh I so hope this is the new normal. I dont even care if the FIA has found away to turn the Mercs off... To hell with them.

It would be fantastic if Vettel won this weekend. Just because of all the incessant talk on Mercedes-Williams and Hamilton-Senna related records to break this weekend. And for a weekend for Hamilton to equal Senna, Vettel to surpass him would be funny. And don't get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing against Lewis. It's just those media people that I have to endure every race weekend. Their faces were so funny after the Hungarian GP, both Sky people and BBC team.

Though, I'm just optimistically cautious for the race. Vettel has had some bad luck with the safety cars and it's been a long time since he made any major mistakes. And Ferrari don't have impeccable reliability. I just have to remind myself of all those issues for this weekend. Red Bull might even have better race pace to be honest.

Why do you have a need to jinx it?!

You used past tense in the beginning of your sentence - WON. Race is tomorrow? How do you know the result?!? Relax and enjoy this wonderful moment!!!

That was absolutely amazing from Seb, don't mind seeing the finger now. Was watchin the quali on BBC and Eddie j whinging he shouldn't have been show boating with his last lap.. I for one was delighted to see Seb rather than Lewis make his mark on quali with de lap. A clean first corner and please god a good result for both cars...

Brilliant seeing this, I really hope he can convert it to a win as well. Vettel's enthusiasm for Ferrari is infectious, absolutely loving him being in this team.

    1. I'm not jinxing it. I'd be jinxing if I was talking like we are sure to win.
    2. It's called second conditional clause. That's how it is. The language. It doesn't have a "past" meaning, it's present actually.

we dont run low fuel loads anymore. As Maurizio said it gives false impression. Good on Fridays, then come Sundays we look slow.

Actually I'm more worried about tyre deg. Red Bull looked good here with tyre deg and I think Ferrari had some problems in Monza with slightly more deg.

Hilarious thing by the way. On a weekend Mercedes was on course to their 24th pole position a la Williams (92-93) and Hamilton was all about Senna records, it is Vettel who smashed Mercedes and Hamilton records by getting the pole like Senna did against Williams. And if he wins, he will surpass Senna in terms of total victories in F1. That's a bit ironic.
