And eventually that solution always gets a green light from the FIA. Is it just a coincidence, does Mercedes have the brain power that no one else has? Or it is something else? Again, 9 other teams with hundreds of engineers and not one came up with this solution. Very interesting. It is also interesting that in a budget cap era, they can somehow build one car for the release date, a completely different car for the first test and another completely different car for test 2. Will Merc change LuLu and Geroge’s engine every race this year and run at fully party mode all the time? Afterall, their budget seems endless.
Just wait for first race for a clear pecking order, it is too early to declare mercedes has won this year just because they have a unique solution. Based on your logic you should say the same for Ferrari as well as their design is also unique and no one else has come up with a similar design.

I just saw from a wing camera that Mercedes has a split front wing. About 20cm from the nose the wing is split and the outer part is flexing quite a lot. Does everybody have that? Didn't see any other wing camera, so I have no idea, but it cought my eye.

I am waiting until Q3 to see the pecking order, I definitely haven't declared Merc the winners yet. Just pointing out that it would be a shame for us Tifosi and F1 fans if they run away into the distance again.

Looks like the afternoon session has very little running except for Perez.

I haven't said that their direction/solution is the correct one. I still have faith in Ferrari's design and am eagerly awaiting the first race.

From Autosport - 20:09 With the front-end camera view of Russell's car, you can see a little bit of wing flex as he gets on the gas. And before anyone writes in to ask if that's legal, wings do that under load. It's just hypnotic...like a lava lamp.

Hmm, I get the flexing, but the split part is the thing that gets me.

Seems you said it was the best, try and keep up with yourself

It's more annoying that you have decided Merc are already best on a FERRARI forum. Do you even support Ferrari or just here cause you hate Lewis.

You are putting words in my mouth like you always do. I didn't mean this solution/direction was best, it was pertaining to past designs; DAS, FRIC etc. We dont know which design is best yet and I have said 100 times since the launch that I am eager for the start of the season to see our true performance relative to the others. You always get so bothered anytime anyone mentions merc or Hamilton.

Early days mate. I would'nt call it a unique solution just yet. It is innovative that's for sure. Wait 4 or 5 races and see if Mercedes have come up with a unique solution.

The W13 looks like a slightly more extreme version of the Williams. Honestly, I'm not sure that sidepod shapes will be that big of a deciding factor, particularly given the huge airbox over the drivers' heads on those cars. Let's wait and see.

Looking at the cars going by, the Ferrari looks fatter and lower while the Mercedes looks slimmer at the bottom but fatter at the top. Not sure which is the best approach, but I think there are tradeoffs that have occurred on both cars.

Maybe, but then again, you're spending a lot of time arguing with a 4YO

Maybe fat and low is better, just guessing.

    1) For what it's worth, I think the Merc is ugly.
    2) I hope that Mercedes have a proper of a season - though I suspect they won't!
    3) Hope we are fighting for wins and podiums (podia?) all year.

Up yours Toto, up yours Horner!

I think if we take a look back at Haas's first car they showed (which they said was an earlier test model), looks like they tried the downswept, minimized sidepod concept and then switched to a sidepod design that is closer to Ferrari's. So, who's to say that Merc got it right? I think we'll see them increase their pods.
