RED BULL WANTS OWN MERCEDES-STYLE PIRELLI TEST - REPORTS
Sunday 30 June at 09:35 : Jun.30 (GMM) Red Bull has asked the FIA if it can follow Mercedes' lead and conduct a 1000 kilometre tyre test with Pirelli, using its 2013 car.

The world champion team has been heavily critical of the Mercedes test, which resulted in the German team being banned from the forthcoming young drivers test.

But the FIA has since clarified that, so long as Pirelli and F1 teams follow the right processes, tyre tests like that are actually allowed.

So Brazilian correspondent Livio Oricchio, writing for O Estado de S.Paulo newspaper, reports from Silverstone that Christian Horner has asked the governing body if it can be the next team in line for a Mercedes and Ferrari-style test.

"Horner is convinced," said Oricchio, "that the 1000 kilometres of testing that Hamilton and Rosberg did in Barcelona had a direct effect on Mercedes' rapid development in the last few races."

    Speed Week is reporting similarly.

"Red Bull has sent a detailed letter to race director Charlie Whiting to clarify the question: 'under what circumstances can we also go testing?'" that report said.

Because of the 'test-gate' scandal, in which Red Bull has been vocally critical of Mercedes, a palpable tension between the two teams now exists.

Mercedes' Toto Wolff insists that some quotes about Red Bull in the German media last week were taken out of context, but according to Bild newspaper he had agreed with Pirelli to sit down for a 'peace summit' at Silverstone.

Red Bull's Christian Horner, however, refused to attend.

"That was not a good idea," Horner is quoted as saying. "The tribunal is over and we want to look forward from now on."

Wolff responded: "It's a shame Christian declined (to attend). I would have liked to talk about the tribunal, maybe clear up some things and get closer together once again.

The tyre siutation must be particularly frustrating for alonso. Back in his championship winning days at renault, Michelin were doing all they could to help the French team win.
Now we have an Italian tyre manufacturer favouring Ferrari's competitors.

What a blatant display by Merc...Why sure..they didnt get any advantage to their test...how many poles? how many wins since they did it?
Things like this really turn me off. And Merc, are they the new Vadar? Kind of gets me watching Lauda in the pits acting like he did some great
thing for Merc. They cheated and gained an unfair advantage.
    There, I got that off.
AND, Ferrari doesnt like the tire yet still managed podium, 3rd and 6th. Way to go Ferrari.

They are ahead of Ferrari in the constructors' championship now, 99 points in the last 3 races since their test, compared to only 72 points in the 5 races before it.

Wouldn't be surprised if Pirrelli used these tire failures as another excuse to get the tires tougher and more durable. Pirrelli did so much damage to this sport and the list is pilling up.

    1. Hugely their fault for the illegal testgate, when they got away unscratched, harming the sport.
    2. Made faulty tires that don't last, many teams having huge problems with them.
    3. Almost obviously favoring some teams for quite a few recent races with trying to get tires they'd like.
    4. Got tires that directly interfered with the race, getting a race leader and a potential podium stander out of the race, that gladly didn't happen in a bad place, where someone could get injured.

Keep on rolling Pirrelli, not much left to ruin.

No tyre deg for merc in this race. Hamilton coming at alonso on old tyres to alonso's new tyres. What a difference a 3 day test makes.... a joke and a disgrace is what all this is

We should just change suspension on F150 for pull rod and thest the wheels out of it. Just to get an idea of a better setup.

Also, speaking of the philosophy the team has about tire heating, even though we do invest more in to saving tires, i can not say that we are actually good at it. We got outplayed by Merc and RedBull today, who invest a lot in to having good tire heat up speed, unlike us, but were even better at saving tires than us. They out paced and outlasted us today with a rather big margin.

Tyre failures a new problem - Pirelli
    ESPN Staff
    June 30, 2013

Paul Hembery says Pirelli's multiple tyre failures at the British Grand Prix were caused by a new type of problem with its tyres.

Pirelli has suffered several instances of delamination so far this season and has been working to resolve the issue. However, the tyre blow outs at the high-speed Silverstone saw dramatic blow outs on four cars, all on the left rear.

Pirelli motorsport director Hembery said the issues were something new this weekend and that he could not add any more until further analysis is done.

"Today wasn't foreseen," he said. "We've seen something new and a different type of problem. We're currently performing analysis because we need to understand what has happened today. When we have got the facts we can understand what has happened and get to the core of the issue. We take these things seriously and when we have the answers we will let you know.

"It was on tyre at the back, the left rear, and we need to understand that. It's pointless me adding anything else until we have all the facts."

    Todt calls emergency meeting
June 30, 2013 by Joe Saward

Jean Todt has told Pirelli to be in Paris on Wednesday this week for a meeting of the Sporting Working Group, in order to take measures to avoid a repeat of the tyre problems that were seen at Silverstone. Pirelli has been asked to propose a solution. The FIA’s priority is, obviously, driver safety, and a suitable solution is deemed to be needed as soon as possible.

Although Pirelli is taking the brunt of criticism after the British GP, it must be said that the reason that changes were not made to the tyres used at Silverstone was because the teams were unable to agree with one another. Obviously the tyre failures in Silverstone have added fuel to the fire so that there will be more pressure on those who have argued against the change. Thus it is no surprise to hear that Red Bull Racing has been talking up the problem.

Does anyone know if the steel belts were present on the tyres that delaminated today?

Rewatching the race, Matchet said they are indeed steel belted.

The whole idea to make tires wear faster to enhance racing has backfired, made the show worse, and whats more, unsafe.
Why would Pirelli want to be in such a position...just make regular racing tires..let the cars and drivers be the show..not the tires.

Yes, Bernie Eccelstone, the FIA & Pirelli have committed a Huge Failure to Formula One to "SPICE UP THE ACTION" by playing with the tires!!!!!!!!!!! Paul Hembrey is our culprit in all this and it is HIS Mandate to the Pirelli Engineer's to make tires that have "Controled" tire degradation over a short period on time. Last years Specification Tires performed very well and they should go back to that specification of tires and STOP all the Cr_p going on! As for Ferrari's Performance today? Both drivers drove hard but the cars are way too slow in Qualifying!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3rd place for Alonso was a VERY LUCKY result! Ferrari needs a Faster Car and Qualiy on the Front 2 rows! Anything less is a FAILURE!!!!!!!!!!!! Mercedes is now 2nd in the Constructor's Championship and Ferrari moves DOWN to 3rd.

FrankAlfa, you're back again despite insisting that you've dis-owned F1.....your points are noted but you keep banging the same drum and whilst I agree with some of your comments, please make your mind up whether to support our team, or don't bother to criticise everything about the team and the sport. It's depressing. Grazie.

    @ wisepie!,

Who are you to "Direct Me" to do or not do anything???! Though I am sick of the "Drama" in Formula One and I believe the "Sport" is more "Fixed" than anything else, I will always be a fan of the Ferrari Team!!! I never said I was no longer a Ferrari Fan. So get that straight.

My indifference toward the sport of Formula One is my opinion of the events that unfold each and every year for the past 6 years or so. A forum like this is a place to voice that indifference and opinion As for your words towards me and my posts; I meet them with equal indifference! It is NOT for you decide what I am allowed to express nor does your opinion of my posts have bearing on my opinions. As long as we are respectful and do not stoop to personal attackes on one another, we are free to state our "opinions".

We share the commonality of supporting the Ferrari Team and equally share in the disappointment of their loss.

Or the large brushes underneath a road cleaning vehicle! Very damaging to the image of Pirelli.

Yes, Jenson made a comment in either his BBC or Sky interview (can't recall which, sorry) about tyres would be hitting drivers when they had metal in them.

FIA invites Pirelli to SWC meeting after Silverstone tyre dramas
By Jonathan Noble Sunday, June 30th 2013, 18:50 GMT

FIA president Jean Todt has invited Pirelli to attend next week's Sporting Working Committee meeting at the Nurburgring to try to help Formula 1 find a long-term solution to its tyre problems.

In the wake of the multiple tyre failures at the British Grand Prix, AUTOSPORT understands that Todt held a meeting with Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery, racing manager Mario Isola and F1 race director Charlie Whiting in the paddock at Silverstone on Sunday night.

While Pirelli is being pushed to act in the next 48 hours to implement a response for next week's German Grand Prix, Todt felt it would be worthwhile if Pirelli attended next Wednesday's long-scheduled SWC meeting.

Although any decisions made there will be too late to have any major impact on the German GP, the hope is that solutions can be agreed that will help ensure the problems are solved for the remainder of the season.

Speaking to French television channel CANAL+, Todt said that it was important F1 and Pirelli responded in an intelligent way once answers have been found about what exactly went wrong at Silverstone.

"I had a meeting with officials from Pirelli, who will obviously investigate all the incidents that occurred in recent days," explained Todt.

"They will come up with proposals for the important meeting with all the teams on Wednesday. This [issue] will be part of the priority agenda.

"From the moment there are safety issues we have to make the right decision - and not just respond emotionally.

"We must analyse things and let the experts come together to meet after that. It will allow us to make a final decision."
